Who's going to use iCloud when it's released?C

Bit of a tough one this, as I use a lot of apple products, and so it would seem logical to subscribe to their new iCloud service when it's officially released to the public for sign up, but I use gmail for email, calendars and contacts so weighing up the potential switch.

What do you all reckon? Are you going to use iCloud when it's here?

it will most certainly eliminate needing any significant storage size for your iDevice.

It's way better than MobileMe.
Well... it is DIFFERENT than MobileMe, which was an overpriced email service.

The iCloud works great and the 5 gigs of storage that you get for free is enough for one device if you use it as a back up, enough for two if back up to your computer.

I back up my iPad to the iCloud and my iPhone to the computer and so far I have had no space issues. I even did a full restore from the cloud to see if it works as advertised. Took a while, overnight, but it got all my stuff back!

Keep in mind the cloud does not store actual apps or music, it simply store what apps you have and where you are as far as progress. That does not take hardly any space at all.
The only space consuming files are going to be all your pics and videos that you took with your phone.

All in all, works great for me.

You can always upgrade if you need more and the price is in line with Box.net, Dropbox etc.

Another nice thing about the iCloud is that it finally keeps everything in sync. Notes, docs, images etc created on one iDevice are seamlessly synced to all your other iCloud devices almost immediately.
You can start a document on your iPhone and pick it up on the iPad. Take a pic on iPhone and it is on your iPad almost instantly.

Pretty cool stuff.

How does it compare to gmail because if I do switch to iCloud then it will be seriously for the email!

And in all honesty, should Google be worried as iCloud looks to be the start of something really big from Apple!

I do not use the Google stuff but I know people that use it and like it.
The iCloud works fine for me and it will give Google competition but only if the customers are using iOS devices.

Yeah, that's what I mean cos right from day 1 of using an iPhone I've used my google account for email, calendar & contacts & that's been implemented across the additional i devices I've added to my line up as I refused to pay for MobileMe, yahoo & Microsoft don't appeal to me in the slightest so have stuck with Google, which works pretty well with apples products, but will iCloud tie everything together & make the whole experience even slicker?

Something tells me that by Steve Jobs presenting this at WWDC, it's going to be a big deal with the attention Apple will give iCloud.

Can you see a lot of people like myself who have i devices, but use services like Google, etc on them moving over to iCloud when it's finally released?

Any ideas as to when it will get a public release?

No idea but the new iPhone will be shown on October the 4th.
I would expect iOS 5 to be released either slightly before or immediately after the even.
They will not make the same mistake the made a year ago and release the OS and the new phone on the same day.
