Lugs on a modern daytona assymetrical?
I am close to picking up a Zenith daytona and looking at various examples it struck me -- from the factory, are the crown side lugs not the same shape as the lugs on the other side (ie, the crown side lugs are noticably skinnier)?
I see this with some vintage watches but thats typically because the crown side of the watch is more exposed to dings and thus gets polished down more over time. Here's a pic I pulled off ebay in terms of what I mean (I'm comparing the width at the red lines with the width at the blue lines which on a sub are the same width): |

I just noticed last night my Y-Series SD has the very same exact issue? Never been polished. Also there is one micro spec missing from one marker on the dial by the naked eye (I noticed that one when I bought it back in March 2003.) Still looks like a million bucks so I don't really care and it makes it my own.

Funny, I remember thinking the same thing when I looked at my 16528 Zenith Daytona...

There is an old thread on this and yes the lugs are not the same.
Probably because the crown and crown lugs are on one side.

Indeed. I think it's made like this to achieve better symmetry.

thanks. at first i thought i was going crazy.
but to rad87 and capote's comments...are modern subs and explorers also not symmetrical? certainly much less so than the daytona. |

The old style case is not symmetrical. I'm not sure about the new design fat case. Perhaps an owner could take a nice dead on macro photo of a subC for analysis?
You're not crazy!

My Sub Y series lugs feel thinner on the crown side as well.
Just eyeballing the gmtiic, the lugs look the same. Larry / Tools nay have posted schematics in the library. |

I know that this particular thread is old but does anyone have an answer to this one? I just noticed that my random serial 14060M has the same lug discrepancy. Thanks!

Thanks for the welcome 77T! Been actually lurking on this forum since 2006 or so. Only posted once here before the one today.

This is true, they ARE asymmetrical. Noticed that on my brand new Daytona as well.
I guess the reason are the chrono pushers and there position/angle to the case. BTW, there are many other asymmetrical watch cases out there, i.e. most of Omega divers.... Tom |

I have the same problem with my sub from 1996. It is worse now as it just came back from service in March and the polished the heck out of it.
