luminous dial markers...lifetime?

Hi, just a basic question regarding the luminous dial markers on sport type rolex models. Does the effectiveness of the tritium (??) depleat over the years? Do they also change colour with age? I am not sure if they are expected to glow after being in the sun or also after being under indoor lights? At what age does this get worse in general and does it reduce the value of the watch?

Cheers Mark
