I have an opportunity to by a black Monster at $90, head only. Is it worth it? Pro's? Con's?

Hi Brandon,

I have a couple of monsters. The last one I bought was on a rubber strap from Ebay and cost me about $90. The JB NATO was $12. Certainly a lot lighter on the NATO (96 grams) than on the bracelet (176 grams).

I have an orange monster on my wrist as I type this.
The case is huge heavy and will take just about anything that is thrown at it.
The luminous markers and hands are large and very easy to read at night as they glow very brightly.
screw down crown at 4 o'clock doesn't seem to get knocked as often as crown a 3 o'clock.
Nice smooth bezel ratchet rotation.
Good timekeeping +/- a few minutes a week not chronometer quality, but for $90 what can you expect.
I would recommend one for daily wear or sports like fishing etc...

Best value in the watch market, and I would snap up a head only at that price. If you don't like it, I will buy it from you at that price (assuming condition is very good) so you have nothing to lose!

I have to right now, one on a Rhino Strap and the other on the OEM bracelet.

They draw more compliments than a Rollie or Omega, which I find odd.

I would buy it. It is a very durable watch and a great value. You are getting a lot of watch for not very much money. I have a Black Monster that I admit doesn't get nearly as much wrist time as it should.

One problem is that it cannot be manually wound, you have to do a cognac swirl to start it off, also some have commented on its lack of accuracy [can be +25 over 24hrs] But most WIS have one in their collection. The bracelet is superb for the money IMHO.

My Black Monster is my beater, wear it on a Rhino strap with PVD hardwear. Goes places where i don't want to take my sub eg the garden

Is this a new SEIKO or used? If used, how old?

If it is pristine, then yes, that is a very good price. You can get a strap or bracelet for it very easily and inexpensively.

I love mine on its rubber strap!

Thanks, Allan.... just getting back to this thread. In the meantime, I bought a Seiko automatic Diver's watch. It is big and heavy, but I like it. I think it is a nice companion watch to my white faced Exp II. Cheers, Bill p.

I had an orange one and loved it. The only thing I didn't like was the crud that collected under the scalloped bezel.

i love my BM.

It is within COSC timing standards when I wear it (+3/day).

I wore it diving in Cozumel and it worked flawlessly.
