Rolex Submariner Case
Several months ago I damaged my Submariner case and back. To have it repaired by Rolex is going to cost well over £2000.00. Is there anywhere I could purchase a case and back and have a good watch repairer transfer the mechanism or is it better I just take the financial pain through Rolex? Any advice would be appreciated...............thanks

If you specify which model you are referring to someone may be able to help you. Good luck!

If you can post some pictures here maybe you can find someone to help with this problem.
I`m thinking possible repair rather than replacement. |

Is it a gold case must be because s/s is no where near that costly. More info please Rikki

A little more detail
Apologies for the lack of detail; I bought the Submariner in 2006 it is stainless steel both body and bracelet model ref: 16610. I could have the case dent polished out but the dent is significant and the case would not be as original and there is a ripple in the back which would have to stay. I would like it back to original condition or as close as possible. If not I will have to go down the Rolex route. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Sorry no pictures the watch is still at the jewellers.

A stainless case back new from Rolex should cost no more than 3 to 4 hundred dollars and that's a high estimate. It is a Rolex only item send it to them directly not through an AD even if you have to send it to Geneva I think you will see a major difference in pricing. Rikki

Thanks Rikki. It is through an authorised dealer where I received the quote and they sent it to Rolex (in the UK I guess) would this screw up my opportunity of dealing direct as they would already know the watch?

Just going through the exact same thing, the quote (I assume) from RSC UK is correct as I was quoted a shade over £2000 also. Depending how you damaged the watch I'm surprised they didn't quote for a full service also (usually insisted upon if dropped). Can you claim on your insurance?

Hi Rossrolex
I'm in the process of making a claim but insurance companies can be tricky even though I have never claimed for anything in my life other than car knocks. How did you damage your Seadweller? Are you dealing with Rolex direct as per recommended by Rikki or are you working through a Rolex retailer/agent?

I went through the AD where the watch was purchased (felt more comfortable as once in their hands should anything happen in their care or whilst in transit it is their responsibility). Similarly I've never claimed for anything on my insurance but my AD was good enough to write a letter and that has been passed onto the company handling the claim. It was my 16610LV which has been damaged, fell out of a bag onto a tiled floor (there is another thread in the forum somewhere) landing lug first which caused significant damage. Just crossing my fingers (and everything else) that everything turns out ok!

I think the OP mentioned case and back, not only caseback. Then the price seems to be .. 'reasonable'. Anyway, I think you can source some middle case and caseback from those trusted vintage seller like Steve Muholland.

If the watch was mine I`d think about selling it and replacing it.I think it would be possible to get enough for it in it`s current state that it wouldn`t take that much more to get another one of similar vintage.
