Rolex 1680 Red "Eric Clapton"?

Until recently (perhaps I'm ill informed) I had not heard of "Rolex Eric Clapton Red Submariner" is this a specific dial variant MK1,2,3,4 etc?

I read that somewhere too but not sure if is true or which ref. red they were referring to, did Eric Clapton wear subs?

Here are two articles I found, looks like it was just one of his many Rolexes sold at auction because he wanted to buy a yacht, his red sub sold for a then astronomical sum of 6000 pounds in 2003
