my absolute first post here - what a bloody disappointment!
hi all...
ive been a "lurker" on this forum for sometime now but have been holding off on my first post for when i finally bought my watch. To that end, i finally saw a Sea Dweller that i really liked advertised on a Australian based business' website. I wrote the following email querying about the watch "Dear Sir I am writing to express an interest in a Rolex Seadweller that you have advertised on your website, Ref ****, serial no Z********. You have noted that it is unworn and comes New in Box. Can you pls advise if the warranty paperwork has a dealer stamp on it and also if the purchaser details have been left blank? When I purchase a watch, I prefer to inspect the dial etc under a loupe to ensure that there are no blemishes, faults or defects as products can sometimes slip through QC processes. Can you pls confirm this watch is free from all such defects, blemishes and faults? Finally, can you please advise your payment process and mailing process? I can pay a deposit immediately, however would like to wait 2-3 weeks before finalising the purchase. Can you assist with this? cheers Jeelan Amin" i awaited their response quite eagerly and this evening, this is the response i got. "Hi Amin - you "aim for perfection" is unreasonable. You should deal with Rolex directly. Good luck, ****" what the heck?????????? Quite disappointed by this attitude and was definately hoping to introduce myself under better circumstances than this. cheers Jeelan |

Hello Jeelan and welcome to TRF. It's far better to use an AD (Authorised Dealer) you won't get the run-around and you will get good after sales service. Good luck with your hunt.

Why make the reply anonymous, name and shame them so people know who to avoid?
Unfortunately the grey market is a pretty arrogant one, because anyone who can afford to hold that kind of stock, isn't wondering where their next meal is coming from, nature of the beast :( |

Welcome to TRF, Jeelan.
Just ignore that bugger and move on.....preferably through the hallowed portals of an Authorised Rolex Dealer....and FEEL the difference. Cheers - JJ

Well. I would avoid that kind of "seller" like the birds' flue. What a turd!

Welcome to the forum, Jeelan!
As others have said, shake the dust off your feet and move on. The seller doesn't deserve your business. Best of luck in your continuing search!

Welcome Jeelan
There are a lot of internet dealers who want a quick "no questions asked deal". If you aren't comfortable with the seller that is a very strong signal to go somewhere else. If this is your first Rolex purchase then you can't go past walking into a shop in person and dealing person to person. As JJ has said an authorised Rolex dealer will hopefully provide you with a level of confidence and service to your satisfaction. Good Luck |

Welcome. good thing you passed. With that attitude, just imagine what would happen if you had a problem with the watch.
You might be better served by going te AD route. They are worth it to me. Or finding a local buyer you can meet with. Requesting to view it under a loupe and waiting to make the final payment can turn off a lot of sellers. You are trying not to get taken, so are they. I say go AD, buying NIB from an AD is great! Once again, Welcome. |

Welcome Jeelan... like JJ said, move on and don't let the bugger annoy you... not worth it.
Obviously he has something to hide!

Welcome to TRF! Now, dust that individual off and find someone who knows how to respect a customer! It shouldn't be hard...

Welcome aboard, Jeelan!
That's a very disappointing response from the seller. Mark (Mr. K) does have a point that the inspection and final payment arrangements can make the seller leery of dealing with you, but that does not excuse the condescending tone of the reply in any way, shape or form. I'll second AdamB's suggestion to name this dealer - as enthusiasts and collectors, it's always handy for us to know who the bad guys are, as well as the good ones. Anyway, keep looking, and don't be afraid to ask our Australian members for help and advice about getting the best deal possible.

Hi Jeelan, welcome aboard!
Regarding your purchase, you were given an option. Use it. "You should deal with Rolex directly."

Jeelan,
Welcome to TRF and best of luck with your search for a SeaDweller, a very nice watch. I believe it best that this seller's true colors shined early in the deal because more sorry service would have surely followed. You deserve better treatment. Go seek it elsewhere and don't settle for anything less. |

Welcome to the forum I agree with the other thoughts, be glad you did not do business with this seller. If their product could stand up to your demands they would have sold it to you. Sounds like you scared them so they will try to sell to someone not as wise as you are. Good job!

Personally, I think his reply is not rude at all because they simply can NOT confirm the watch is free from all such defects.......
Believe me, even if you buy from AD, they will not guarantee rolex watch is in perfect condition. I really don't think rolex has put much efforts in QC department. Two watches I bought from AD has minor scratches on it and a little minor defect on one. I still have time to get it fixed before warranty expires |

Welcome Jeelan.
That response to your questions tells you all you need to know about them. Take your money where you are appreciated.

re rolex from AD
hi all
thanks for your comments - in hindsight i should have gone to the dealer to start with and as it stands, i'm glad the deal fell through as i would hate to think what this business' customer service would have been like if something WAS wrong post purchase. RE naming him - i actually got his details from this forum and he's a regular contributor to this forum, so i'm not sure where that really stands. His posts in the past have been fairly informative so maybe i caught him on a bad day or something? Either way, i'll be visiting the AD in PErth (yes there is ONE) as i realise that ultimately you get what you pay for, and id rather pay a few hundred extra to get the service instead of saving it and paying more in the long run. It'll be a good way to start a relationship with my AD for future acquisitions :0-) CHEMIST - in principle i agree with your comments, however i do think the response could have been written a LOT differently. I've never purchased a product this expensive sight unseen and was seeking for some reassurance from the dealer that my trust is well placed in him to do the right thing. Obviously it was asking to much. all that being said, yes i'm really looking forward to the SD. I've waited a long time for this. My brother has one that he got a long time ago and i wear it occasionally (when he lets me) and i find it stunning. i love every aspect of it. thanks again for everyone's welcome - i look forward to learning more and participating more here. cheers Jeelan |

Sometimes people do get their wires crossed, that's for sure.
It is difficult communicating over the telephone and via the internet. Nick has a lot of very, very happy customers that's for sure. I'm the first one to know you can't please everyone all of the time, but maybe that's just me In my business I get asked a lot for advice over the telephone and it is just so easy to get it misinterpreted that I make it a policy that I will only give advice person to person. Anyway, I hope that everyone can at least be happy from this moment on |

I agree, it is so easy to interpret things wrongly with writing or even a phone call. Hope this gets resolved quickly and friendly. |

re Rolex
hi Nick
thanks for your response - i appreciate that you put your hand up as the other party in question. Just a few points 1) understand that english may not be your first language, but it is good enough to allow you to make lengthy posts (in this forum at any rate) so that is not an excuse. 2) as the consumer - i have the right to question ANY company's QC process. Agreed, i obviously DONT have the right to ask YOU, but that's now been resolved and i'll take my business elsewhere. I own several liquor stores in Perth and two of them are in fairly affluent areas. Believe me, if i took offence everytime a customer about to spend $1000 on a bottle of wine asked me if its been stored properly, id be out of business very quickly my friend. Its called CUSTOMER SERVICE - not a difficult concept to understand. 3) you make the assumption that i've never bought high end watches yet i have clearly advised you that i normally prefer to inspect the watches closely before finalising the purchase. All i can say is that "with all due respect, you are not qualified to" make that assumption about my previous buying experiences. 4) my payment terms not being acceptable - i completely understand this and it would have been a non issue for me if your response advised me as such. If i had been able to come up with funds to make a purchase straight away, i would have done this, alternatively, i would have thanked you for your response and advised you that i'll be in touch with you when i DO have the funds. In any event, your decision to be "straight forward" has certainly lost you ONE potential customer. 5) I agree with and appreciate all your comments below re NO watch being blemish free etc, however Nick, if you had taken the same amount of time outlining this in your initial response to me, perhaps the outcome could have been that we would both have been happy. You with a sale, and me with a SD. But hey, you live and you learn right?? cheers Jeelan |
