OMG BMW at 19...also where is Alfa Romeo? Well probably 30th out of 29 car makers. Also i do not seem to see Daihatsu (these are reliable). I guess neither are exported to the US.

I bought my daughter a Scion for her 16th birthday, she has had it now for 5 years without a single problem. One of the best purchases I've made in a long time.

Haha yea I was looking for that too :) Last year they were #1...
I pay not attention to "reliability" lists b/c they always conflict with my "fun driving" lists

My wife's Rav4 had the transmission fall out at 67k miles. A $9,000 problem. I don't think we'll ever be able to own one again.
It sucks to see the more expensive brands not holding to the value they portray. However, a big question to ask is how a car performs in year 1 vs. year 6 or 11 or 21. |

Also... I'm not surprised to see Mazda high on the list. When I got my BMW 330cic 6 years ago, my 1994 Mazda MX6 had 135,000 miles on it and was worth less than $2k in trade. So, I gave it to my 17 yr. old cousin who took it off to college in Florida. She still has it.
And... what's with this Scion ass-kickery for 2 years running? Pretty cool. I have a friend who only owns Scions.... well, and racing bikes. |

Bit different perpective to some thoughts above, have owned 3 Hondas and currenly a 2011 Acura MDX-all very reliable, zero major issues. One Toyota-2006 Highlander was a shop resident and eventual money bit, only second to my VW GTi. Honda/Acura has earned by business. I would try Lexus, BMW, Audi but 100K warranty would need to be close to be included.

Follow-up, those with Scions-are they safe enough to have your kids drive as a first car?

Too bad about the Toyota experience some here have had.......my Toyota Highlander, an '01, is still going strong...it was the 1st year made....a couple of small recalls. Only wear & tear stuff: tires, brakes, a battery... no problems w/ it, I've had good luck w/ Toyotas.....I've had four 4Runners, a Celica, a Supra & a Corolla.....never a problem.
And my ex-wife got the '09 Lexus RX350....I got the H.L., and the Lexus is still running like new. I'd buy another Toyota. I doubt if I'd ever get another wife

I've never heard of Scion, are they independent or are they owned by a bigger manufacturer?
Edit; Just googled it, seems they are a sister company to Toyota. http://blog.toyota.co.uk/tag/scion

I bought my first Toyota (Crown) in 1968.
It was a great car except not many people knew what it was. |

1st car was an Alfa Romeo 1.5Ti, an awesome drive but a money pit, then followed years of (costly & disappointing) British motors before i finally went for a Toyota HiLux Surf 3.0TD, 4 years of trouble free motoring & now a VW van, another great buy
