Thoughts on diamonds on rolex

I went to an AD today and took a look at several watches- namely the Datejust (36mm) and Daytona. I couldn't help but notice how many watches they had on display that contained diamonds.

I have always felt that great watches are respected for the mechanical performance and never felt that they should be labeled as "jewelry".

Don't get me wrong- I respect and generally like gems (especially diamonds) but I would rather see them on my fiance's fingers or on a necklace/bracelet as opposed to on a watch.

What are your thoughts? I have to admit one thing- being an owner of a TT Sub (with blue face)- I noticed the Serti dial (slate) and it didn't look "that" bad!

For me they are fine and dandy on ladies models but NEVER on mens...

No offence to any blokes who like them. What do I know anyway... Being a Scotsman I often wear a "skirt" so, if diamonds on your watch blow your hair back, who am I to judge?!?

I bet that frightens your horse more than no skirt at all.

Yeah, that didn't frighten him... Just destroyed his self esteem!

Michael, most folks here are classic guys and prefer a pure unaltered Sports Rolex, however, I personally do not mind a Rolex dial with diamonds on it. I believe when Rolex creates a timepiece with a precious stone they are done tastefully... Here are a few pics of my 116234 Black MOP diamond dial Datejust...

Yes...I agree diamonds have no place on a men's watch.

That is a beautiful watch Sam! I have to admit, the reason why I threw it out there was that I kinda started to appreciate the jeweled watches! You're right- Rolex keeps it tasteful

This is a beautiful example of how tasteful a mans rolex looks with diamonds (picture borrowed).

Diamonds on the dial are about as far as I'd go. Diamonds on a Rolex bezel are just too much, for me. I also think the diamonds on a dial do a pretty good job of being fully functional dial markers, as opposed to just bling.

Just thought I'd share these pics... They come courtesy of Dan (Sond86) as he is helping me look for a 118235... Just look at the black MOP dial and the diamond markers... This Rolex piece looks tastefully done to me... Thanks again Dan almost there in tracking down the piece!

I have an appreciation of a diamond encrusted Rolex, however not for me, I find less is more when it comes to diamonds on a Rolex!
With that said, we all have likes and dislikes. So one mans views can be very different from another's. This is what makes us individuals, if not, life would be extremely boring!

I like diamonds on hour markers but pave or lugs or bezel diamonds are too over the top for me.

I seen this cool green one though
