Incoming sub... what to expect!

If you've read any of my other threads you'll know that I've been looking into getting my first ever Rolex.

The choice has been made and yesterday my wife put down a deposit on a Sub-C at my local AD!

Being as I am a complete newbie to all this I was wandering what I'm going to be expecting on Monday when we go to pick it up...

Will I register the watch under my name and is this done at the dealers?
Should I expect them to make adjustments to the bracelet there and then?
What should I get in the box and is there anything I should be looking out for?

I work in retail myself so I know how easy it is for something to be taken out of a box to display, only to be put back in with something vital missing! I also realise from this forum that it's very important that all tags etc are included!

I've also seen from another thread that for a 7" wrist (mine is ever so slightly over this) that 2 links out of the 12 side made for a good fit... do you think this would be a good place to start for fit?

Lastly, and quite importantly... this watch will, after collection be put away safely by my wife until my 40th birthday next April! Do I need to do anything with regards to this (take it out for an occasional walk, feed it) or is it safe just to let it stop and come next April follow the instructions as to setting the time date etc and starting it?!

I would wait to buy it till April. The warranty date starts when you purchase it so you will effectively lose 6 months while the watch sits idly in a safe.

They will size it for you at the AD when you buy it.

I think the service you get will depend on your AD.
I am shocked at the way some assistants hold watches that I go in to try on. They display a definite lack of care.
I think you have to make it really obvious that the watch has to be perfect and that you deal with the top person at the shop. All too often we hear stories where the newly qualified "Rolex trained" assistant has bodged up the bracelet adjustment. Check the packaging too as mint packaging is more valuable if you want to sell the watch sometime in the future.

Whilst all of this sounds a bit doom and gloom, it is all down to experience. I have my watches ordered direct from Rolex and never buy from the shop display. No other customer touches my watches and I adjust the bracelet myself

i wouldnt suggest waiting until april since there may be a potential price hike before april comes >.<.....so wait until you hear of a potential price markup and then buy it before then! this way you pay the same and get the most out of your watch's warranty!

pay for watch, give them ID to register your watch, box+papers(card ID and 2 little booklet)+your watch, comes with rolex certified red circle tag and a potential price tag(some stores keep their price tags).....and go home happy!

They should resize it for you on the spot....

Don't worry about the warranty if you don't get it from your mrs till April watches like these don't tend to go wrong in the 1st year for sure and some run fine without a service in a life time.

Just check all paperwork serial numbers match other than that enjoy!

Some "TRF" Members had advised to buy it now due to possible price hike on the horizon... had seen one thread saying UK price going up come the end of this month, rather play safe than sorry with my wife's money!

Buy now, no need to risk a $400+ price hike.

I brought mine home last week. Also have a 7" wrist, 2 links taken out of the 12:00 side and it fits perfectly. Make sure that the clasp is centered on the bottom of your wrist and that when the glidelock is as tight as it can be, the watch fits snugly. If there is any doubt, you may want to try 1 link out of each side and see if that works any better.

The AD should have a stamped warranty card and they will register the warranty for you. I have a 7 1/4 inch wrist and went with two links removed. That pinned me at end of adjustments and the clasp was off center. I went with three links removed with the clasp nearly wide open, the clasp sits better. I have watchmakers tools so did the change myself, though I later brought it back to my dealer to have the screws loctited.

It is a beauty of a watch, I guarantee you will love it.

Here is another vote for buying now and avoiding a potential price hike. The model won't change any and most owners never use the warranty anyway. Have the AD adjust it for fit when you pick it up. Store it in nice safe place (safe) and insure it. No need to do anything to it while in safe and dry storage.

If you are worried about having your bracelet adjusted then just take it to the Rolex Service Centre in St James's square, London - they will do a superb job for you. Otherwise you should receive a Sub booklet,cronometer tag, swimpruf tag (with the serial number on), bezel protector, inner and outer box and a warranty card in a leather holder.
