How much longer will they go for a grand over retail?

Any thoughts on how long sellers will be able to rake in a substantial profit on the new Exp II? Some of the prices being asked are rather ridiculous IMO, but I guess if you want to get one first and can afford it - you pay the extra cost. Personally, I'll wait until the hype dies down.

I'd give it a a year and a half or less. They're not "limited" like the GVs or LVs. Soon they will be like the white and black Milgauss. Available everywhere and probably at a discount. (Keep in mind, by then the list price will probably be close to or exceed what the list+premium is today.)

How long is a bit of string and IMHO anyone paying over retail for any product Rolex or not must be sixpence short of a shilling.

I almost paid over retail for my 216570 and was lucky to get the call from an AD that my piece arrived. Yes the 216570 may sell for sub $7k on the secondary market next year but isn't that the same story with all new Rolex releases? There is always initial hype, the hype dies down, years pass and then the piece becomes vintage...

Its really not a grand over retail if you consider 7% sales tax.

Well they don't appear to be that hard to get hold of - I tried one on in an AD in Uk last week and they had both the black and the white dial versions available in Frankfurt airport when I travelled through yesterday

Is the new ExpII even worth the MSRP? I still haven't seen one in person.

They are a big step forward compared to the old model.

I am nearly pulling the trigger on a black face.

Please convince me why I should buy and why the black face is better than the white face!

The general rule of thumb applies here. This will stop once they become plentiful enough that supply meets or exceeds demand.

To me yes, however, is any Rolex ever worth MSRP?

I can't convince you, however, personally for me this is the closest I was able to get to a 1655, eventually I will buy the white dial as well. In summary both dials are beautiful! Good luck with your decision!

The new black face ExpII is the only watch I'd be willing to consider from Rolex's current offerings. And until I actually have the opportunity to try one on I won't know for sure if I'll nab one. That being said, I refuse to pay OVER MSRP! So for people like me the wait has begun...

This guy has a point, by the time the hype goes down and the supply increases, the EXP II will be hit by at least 1 and maybe even 2 price hikes and this would bring it to roughly what it's price is right now......but only time can tell tho =(

I already think a grand over is over, or close to it.

I don't think the 216570 will command any premium for very long.

There has been 3 x LNIB 216570s for sale in one of the UK forums and two has been sold at the advertised price. The preowned advertised price for the 216570 is about £5100 ATM.... (current UK MSRP is £5530).

Go for the white dial

I don't see it lasting either... A great watch but MSRP is high enough. I see this one being discounted like everything else very soon if not already

I tried on the white dial at Tourneau this past weekend. I really wanted to like the watch...The one reservation I had was that since the hands are so large, the black trim were extremely glossy. The watch wore large, but not too large.

The sales woman said they were "flying off the shelves" but then offered financing and Tourneau gift certificates. She told me that the thicker lugs were more masculine than the old version. I was wearing my 16710 Pepsi at the time :-/

Supply and demand my friend, supply and demand. If I was filthy rich, I'd pay in a heartbeat because I would be filthy rich. I'm not, therefore would never pay above retail. That's just nuts. In the end, the hype will die, and you will be able to find them all over.

Question is: Can you wait?

I can.

It was one thing to pay a premium to be the coolest kid on the block when they weren't in the US, but now that they are available a AD's... well I don't get it.

It will not be long.

Over MSRP!? Not in the UK!

I reckon mine is worth £300 less than I paid for it already!
