I think I've chosen my next watch...

...(aside from a possible/likely SS Rolex Datejust): The Patek Calatrava 3998. Most likely yellow gold. It's exactly what I want -- a nice simple dress watch, with class beyond reproach. It's also a watch I'd wear almost anytime.

I think it'll be next spring before I get it, as I'm currently facing property taxes, vacation expenses, holiday expenses, and miscellaneous unforeseen expenses. ;-) Anticipation is the best part, though.

You are right Peter, that baby is simple and classy all rolled into one. Great choice IMHO.

Thanks, Daren. There's really nothing to not like about it. (Except that it's an awful lot of money for a not-so-awful little watch. ;-))

Yes, but to me that is the beauty of that watch. To be honest, when 99.99% of the people see that it will look like a Seiko, but the ones who know will be applauding (inside or aloud) that fine piece of machinery.

Hi Peter,

Saw a Calatrava at the only dealer in NZ, Partridge Jewellers on Queen St. just opposite Mansor's.

It was in YG on a black croc strap with a transparent case back. List price was a whopping NZ$23,000 (around US$16,000). Does this price sound about right?

It looked very beautiful and the finish was literally flawless.

JJ

Nice choice, Peter.

I like some PP's a lot, but others do nothing for me. If anything, I am attracted to the simple pieces. I really like the 3919 myself - love the hobnail bezel........

There is a advert in WatchTime that is for some place that refurbishes vintage watches. It shows a before and after pic of a vintage PP that I just love! I have not been able to find a picture of it anywhere on the net that is exactly the same as that one, and I don't know the reference # - kind of driving me nuts looking for it........
