I knew of these before they hit the US market.
Cool little toy. VERY small. A weekend car, not for everyday. |

He is a mechanical engineer and autocross racer and has owned Lotus cars in the past. It is very difficult to get in and out of and is cramped. IMHO, it is a great track car -- 'nuff said.

Fantastic handling cars and very very quick, lotus has always been well respected in the UK for there fine performance tuned cars. And they go around corners quick some say better handling that Ferrari. And the aluminium glue bonded chaise was a first in a production road car.

The Elise is basically a Toyota MII Spider on STEROIDS That's where Lotus got the bodies from. Unfortunately, the MII hasn't been in the US Toyota lineup for 2 years now so the styling is dated. I was dreaming of fitting my 6'2" economy sized frame into the Lotus when I researched buying one last year. There is no way I'd fit.

The new Toyota -Yamaha engine 142.5 kW & 900kg is not too bad for power to weight. Handles like a go cart and suspension is 'FIRM".
I got bored with it (2002 model) fairly quickly, it had the Rover 118 kW engine and was lighter than the new model at just over 800 kg. Good fun in the hills south of Adelaide. Didn't loose a cent when I sold it.

Someone I knew was sponsored by Lotus (Proton) and had an Exige as a company car.
We traveled to a meeting in it and the 150 miles was gobbled up very quickly. I was nearly deaf through the noise and my ar$e was numb at the end of the journey back.
