Question about ROLEX 1675 GMT Rootbeer

Name: rb1.jpg
Views: 153
Size: 104.9 KB

I found one for sale, I have not spoke with the owner yet but the ad states;

1963 vintage, arrow pointed crown guard, TT oyster bracelet, Root Beer dial and bezel..did these come with oysters bracelets?

What do I need or should know about this watch, pictures for comparison reasons would be great...any thoughts on price

Franken watch!
1) Should have small GMT- hand.
2) I do not think that the two tone model was made that early, but a may be wrong.
3) Usually came with jubilee bracelet I believe.
4) Really poor condition.

What is the asking price?

I suggest you post info and photos in the vintage forum here and on "the vintage Rolex forum" for comment.

Thanks, they want $4,000. I spoke with him on phone says he is jeweler that works on watches.

Claims hands, dial and bracelet are all original and that it's dated 1963 on the inside of the caseback which he says he will gladly pull for me if I'm really interested.

I need some additional feedback; like how to tell if this was a regular 1675 that has been root-beer-ed at some point in time-

Thanks guys

It's interesting to find out how old the oyster bracelet is.
Looks too new for that 1963 GMT.
I am sure there is some sort of a date code in that clasp.
You'll then be able to tell if indeed the band is original to the watch.

Yes [the Rootbeer GMT came with a oyster bracelet] according to this site: http://gmtmasterhistory.com/gmt-master_ref_1675.html

Oysterbracelet 78363. I don't know when that was introduced though.

Hands and dial are obviously not original. Looks like lume from here.

Overpriced and that dial looks terrible. The watch did come with oyster or jubilee bracelet. Ask Jacek on the FS section. I bought mine from him.

Just a couple comments-- my first Rolex was a 1973 rootbeer, bought new on a strap. My bezel looked different from this one, but it was 10 years later. Both my bezel and my dial faded significantly in just a few years. I finally changed both dial and bezel because they looked so bad. The watch in your pictures looks like it must have never been in the sun.
