No More Red-black
I recently purchased the GMT red-black. I had been wanting it for quite some time, it is IMO one of the classiest Rollies made, and is definitely a lot of watch for the money
As I was looking at various Rollies at the AD, the sales lady mentioned that the red-black GMT is the last one they will have, as they have been discontinued, i.e. no longer being made I had already decided to purchase this watch, but that clinched it. I sensed that this was not BS, as others on the forum have mentioned it. I am one of those who much prefer the velvet texture and soft lustre of the enamel bezel, and that was also a reason to buy it. Anybody else planning on getting this watch before it disappears? Cheers, Larry. |

Ohlins - Thanks for that info. My feeling about the texture and lustre still holds. There is a beautiful softness to it that the ceramic bezel lacks, IMHO. Larry.
I hope to visit Singapore one day and wallow in all the Rolex's available there! |

Don't own the red/ black but do have the all black and pepsi inserts. Still think the older [classic, better term] GMT is the better choice for me. More options and more functionality.
Congrats on your red/ black GMT. Wear it in good health. dP

Larry-
Already did! Great call, by the way. Easily one of the best looking Rollies EVER. It is, in fact, discontinued by Rolex. There are still plenty out there as I hit some of my local AD's, but eventually there will be none available NIB from an AD.

And another thing - I wonder if Rolex is aware that by discontinuing production on the old GMT's they are creating an instant classic, which will be highly collectible...

Thanks Ruben. They will probably be gone fairly soon, as you point out. I wonder if collectors will be buying them "on spec" hoping to make a profit down the road a few years...

There have been literally hundreds and hundreds of thousands of GMT's of this reference made. It will take a LONG time. I would (and did) buy one for the historical aspect of it. It's cool for me to think that I bought such an iconic Rollie when it was still available new. The last of an era.

Well...I brought my red/black Z-series 3 months ago and I enjoy wearing it. Indeed, it's much confortable on the wrist compare to Sub the weight and it really fit onto the wrist.
