To take my Rolex to Thailand?

Dear Rolex lovers,

I need your opinion, I am going on holiday to Thailand and am not sure whether to take my SS Sub with me. Although not Gold and conspicuous it is sentimental and would not like to get mugged. But, it is going to be a wonderful holiday and I would love to have my special timepiece with me. What does everyone here do? Considering I am going to the home of fake Rolex watches, they are coveted strongly, although most at a glance might assume mine was a fake I bought there! Thanks for reading and look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Welcome to TRF - the best and most up to date source of information on all things Rolex on the web.

Yes, I would say...it is safe to take your Rolex to Thailand but be cautious if the man in the photograph above approaches you with any sort of proposition.

You will be fine. Just have situational awareness and don't portray yourself as a hapless victim.

Keep it on your wrist. Also, make sure it's insured. Always better safe than sorry. You'd rather have the insurance and not need it, than need the insurance and not have it.

Been twice to Thailand, and third time booked for march 2012. No worries, common sense of course!

The Thai's might try and get an extra 20 bath (50cent euro) from you, but they won't steal your money or your watch.

Very nice people!

Again, common sense, as "bad" people are all around the world.

Have a nice trip.

I came back from Thailand (went to Bangkok & Phuket) a few weeks ago. Took my Sub and no worries, felt safe. As already said, there are so many fakes no body takes any notice. Have a great time

No worries

Just returned from Bangkok last week... I would not be concerned about taking your Rolex with you... great city, people, and food. Hope you have a good time.

Steelinox, was that taken from Lebua? Nice hotel, large rooms!

They sell Rolexes in Thailand too

And service them! Here is the Bangkok Rolex Service Center. I wore my GMT-Master all over BKK as well at Phuket. No problems. No one even looked twice at me.

If you want a great tailor, check out Ricky's Fashion House on Sukhumvit Road.

Anyone ever warned NOT to wear your Rolex somewhere?

I was with a friend wearing a TT Sub in Naples Italy 2 years ago, and 2 shop keepers
told him to take it off and not wear it around town. (I had a LV divers watch on).

Of course wear it! Also check out Venus Jewelers at 167 1-2 Withayu Road in BKK. They don't sell Rolex, but do wonderful custom jewelry at a very reasonable price, totally honest. And they ship. All the U.S. Embassy people buy there. Ask for Parn/Jesse. Tell him that Rick sent you.

Naples is a major port city and heart of the Camorra (sp) Mafia organized crime syndicate in Italy. There is a reason why the DIA (Direczione Investigativa Antimafia) is based in Naples; it is the heart of drug, imitation goods, human trafficking in Europe.

It is the shadiest city I've ever been to in Italy.

I'm in Thailand now with my Sub LVc and it's fine. Been to Bangkok, Phuket and now in Koh Samui and no issues at all. As you said so many fakes that people will assume yours is too.

Take it and enjoy your holiday.
