It's just glued on, but it is some very, very good glue. Taking it off always involves some risk of chipping the crystal.. Some have simply knocked it off with a blade and hammer... do any of this at your own risk..

If you want to preserve the future value of your timepiece, and save money overall, I'd suggest sourcing a good aftermarket sapphire crystal and have your watchmaker swap the OEM with it. By keeping your Rolex crystal pristine you save the future value. The cost of the replacement is about the same as paying to remove it. And there's no risk of harming the OEM crystal.
You get a clean look and save overall.

Leave it - buy watch without one if that's what you want.

i was going to buy the no date sub, but was just too small for me. i wanted the new sub c case and bezel. i just don't want the cyclops. but it is a minimal concern in the grand scheme.

thats the plan. but i like to keep things simple and this is getting complicated. i still love it the way it is, i just really appreciate the clean look without cyclops.

may want to check this link out. I am sure you'd be trying to put it back on once it is off.

Can't it be done quite safely with a razorblade? Safely for the watches safety of course...not your fingers :D

My local AD said he "did this all the time" and "it was no big deal to do". So I would either have a watchmaker do it or buy a second crystal and just have it swapped out.
If I was to own a sub I would have the cyclops pulled |

definitely think twice before removing the cyclops off on the sub c for it has the anti reflective coating underneath. the sub (no-date) crystal will fit the sub c, one of the forum members here in the sf bay area actually did it. so i would suggest asking your watchmaker and see if he could source a sub (no-date) crystal and go from there. the sf rsc is great to work with as well.

I remember reading a thread on here where the cyclops came off when the watch took a nasty fall. Now did this person have a faulty gluejob or is it pretty easy to remove one of these things?

DON'T remove the cyclops on new cermic-bezel Rolex. The AR coating will leave an ugly mark. As pointed out, just source an older sapphire crystal and put that on. $100 + work.

Does anyone know where to source an authentic rolex crystal that would fit a SubC?

Petesakes, go to HOME DEPOT, get some acetone and lop that puppy off !
The AR is on the cyclops sapphire not the main sapphire... Granted mine doesnt hv AR, the glue joint can be seen here, its the outline on the main glass... Just do it, it IS reversable ! Dab the edge of the cyclops with a Q-Tip of acetone and do it repeatedly over a period of an hours worth of dabbings, that shuld break down the glue enough - then take a single edge blade and carefully flick it off, its not a physically demanding motion, take the blade square to the cyclops top or bottom edge and the blade angled so that it can break that glue joint...
