"Rolex Explorer II – The 40-Year Evolution Of An Understatement"

Click here for an article on the evolution of the Explorer II....or, more precisely, a comparison between the original and the latest model.

A picture from the article:

Un grand merci pour l'article Cru, despite the naysayers I am still very much enjoying my black dial 216570! This article hits a lot of points! Similar to the 1655 being unpopular over 4 decades ago I suspect the black dial 216570 will generate its fair share of admirers over time! Happy holidays from NY to Paris!

Don't listen to the naysayers. They are just a bunch of girlie-wristed groaners jealous that they can;t pull off the larger size. I should know - I am one

Jason, I don't think that is the case, however, I just felt the urge to add a few more pictures of Oprah aka my 216570 to this thread

I'd say that the last version was understated, but at 42mm and with those giant hands, it is anything but that now.

How, the new ExpII is quite a bit larger than the original!

It's still a great watch, and a cool retro vibe...but I'm not sure I prefer the larger size.
