Submariner "Terms"
Hey all,
Looking at the 116610LN as my first purchase in the next 1-3 months (YAY!) Anyway, a couple questions have come to mind regarding some terminology that I've seen on the forum. 1. What is SubC? 2. What is the "super-case" 3. What is the "maxi-dial" 4. Any other terms to know?? LOL Thanks!! |

2.Super case= just a more block like case with slightly thicker looking lugs. 3.Maxi DIAL = Just slightly larger hour lume markers on dial.

The SubC is a Sub with a ceramic bezel insert.
A super case is what the new Subs have with the large lugs. The maxi dial has enlarged markers. You might familiarize yourself with the reference numbers of the most common Subs. These are frequently used to avoid confusion. For instance, my Submariner is a 14060M.

Thanks!
I know a lot of the current Sub models... not so much the older ones, at least not by heart. Like I know the current date model is the 116610, and LN is the black dial, LV is the green dial, and the 14060M is the non-date. BTW... if anyone has a couple nice pics comparing this newer style sub 116610 with the older style one that's not a maxi dial or super case, I'd love to see them. Thanks!!! |

Also, with the maxi dial the minute hand is fatter.

This is a comparison from Luxurytyme which is an interesting read, although of course, completely subjective:

Thank's Daniel! Excellent comparison between the two. It's something I had never noticed between the "old" and "new" Subs before.
Thanks! Steve |

Add a date and then it becomes a Submariner Date or Subdate.

Its a dial where dial is silver/gold colour and the dial markers are very tiny precious stones like Sapphires and Diamonds only on TT and all gold models

Thank you mailman, great comparison!
Yes, I just love the Subs, especially the SubC. 1675-David, Thank You! It's the piggy bank my wife made for me last Christmas to start saving for the first one. The other side has the crown on the piggy's rear end!! |

Wow, seems like so long ago, yet it wasn't, I was asking some pretty noob questions! Lol
My 116610LN has the maxi dial and hands, and I believe all the current subs with the ceramic bezel insert have it as well. Others will know more, I'm sure though.

Can someone post pictures of the maxi dial and the non maxi dial side by side so we can see the difference?
Thank you.

Should we confuse Steve with the difference in end links, centre links and clasps between different models of Submariner?

Then there is the Sub-D, made from Dilithium crystal.
But seriously, if you're going to confuse him with the endlinks, use that spiffy chart someone posted a while back... |

the sub C 116610 is definitely lots of improvement over the predecessor 16610
especially the parachrom blu hairspring which is resistant to magnetic effects (hence more regular bhp and better time keeping) |
