Saudi Arabia 1979....

Hello Vintage Gang...

I was just out to lunch at the Dadeland Mall food court in Miami and in front of me in line there is a Gentleman wearing something on a Jubilee band. So the WIS in me had to keep looking until I noticed it was a Vintage Pepsi GMT Master....

I started a conversation with the nice gentleman by saying "Nice Watch", he was caught a bit off guard since his first words were "Its old." So I lifted my sleeve to show my 5513 and said "It looks great like that and its valuable."

I came to find out that he had purchased the watch in Saudi Arabia in 1979 when he made his first "real" money, and that he took good care of it by getting it serviced every 5-10 years and that he had the original box, documentation and accessories...

He seemed rather intrigued by how much I was enjoying talking to him about the watch that when I asked for a picture for the forum he asked how to get here and that he was interested in finding out more information…. So if you are out there and read this SAY HELLO and here is the WONDERFUL FORUM I told you about!!!....

And the pics of his lovely faded insert GMT MASTER PEPSI…Enjoy

Hello QCasanova!

Nice story you tell!
I can well imagine this gentleman got really surprised when you told him some compliments to his watch.
May be he was rather suspicious at first, and I can well understand myself, if I were in his shoes!

Well, we WIS watch lovers have more than a passion!

Well, I hope this gentleman visits this place, and can see his own watch pictured above.
That´s a great watch with a nice past to tell!
Looks great with that faded bezel, just the looks we love in a vintage watch.
I wish him good luck, and many many years more of enjoyment of this most beautiful GMT.
May be he will like to join us!

(By the way, I´m right now wearing my 1675, GMT of 1966 vintage with a Jubilee bracelet, which I feel looks great in GMT´s!

Thank you for sharing this encounter, and I send my best cordial regards, to you and to the owner of this so nice watch!
Abel

It was a great encounter with someone who perhaps didn't realize that there were people like us in the world who love beat up old watches!!!...

Thanks for the kind words Abel and hopefully this nice gentleman will find his way here and join our crazy WIS world!...

Thanks to you for your answer QCasanova!
Just sharing feelings.
Though I usually prefer the Oyster bracelet in my Rolexes, I recognize that the Jubilee is much more comfortable to wear, and in the case of GMT´s, I love the looks of Jubilee on them.
As a matter of fact, my old 1675 has a steel Jubilee, and my TT GMT got a TT Jubilee.
Yes, I also wish your "new friend" the GMT owner, will read this thread!!
Kind regards, Abel.

for someone that has had it serviced regularly it looks pretty rough; the crystal and ban are simply trashed , still a heck of a nice watch with a cool story
