Milgauss as a Tool Watch

Here's a shot from work today. I work around medical magnets sometimes, and my anesthesia machine has a Gauss meter built into it. The Milgauss is perfectly suited for days like this!

That's awesome! I've seen posts from pilots and scuba divers here with "at work" pictures. It's nice to now see one for my beloved Milgauss.

Don't often hear stories like this about the Milgauss.

Great looking watch.

Fellow anesthesiologist here. Do you wear that bad boy into the MRI scanner? Those things produce 1 to 7 Tesla, which is orders of magnitude greater than the field rating for that Milgauss. Obviously we park our machines outside the markers they have to indicate safe magnetic field areas for the anesthesia machines, but you have to get right in there in the core magnet to make sure your patient's adequately and acceptably positioned (and hopefully won't catch on fire, either) - well beyond the milgauss field rating.

I haven't been in the MRI suite since I purchased my DDII, but it'll stay in my bag in it's Oakley Watch Vault when I am down there. Otherwise, Goldie's on my wrist all day, every day.

Not quite true. 1 tesla equals 10,000 gauss. The milgauss is rated to 1,000 gauss (hence the name)...so it's really only one order of magnitude greater (but 70x if it's 7 tesla).

Still that's a huge flux...and not good for your dear watch!

This is not an MRI. It's a set of two magnets that cardiologists use during ablation procedures. Much less powerful than an MRI magnet; the website says 0.08 Tesla. I've never seen >300 Gauss light up before, so I feel comfortable wearing the watch in the cath lab. I wouldn't wear it into an MRI scanner though.

Yes, wise sage, I was rounding up from 70 to 100 to get to 2 orders of magnitude to make the point, rather than be quite specific, which is what I do at my day job.

During an ablation, huh? I see them using freezing wires and heating, but haven't seen 'em using magnets yet. Cool

Yeah, sorry...I can't help myself sometimes. I'm kind of a douche. You have to embrace what you're good at!

I think the milguass and gmt master are the most relevant tool watches Rolex has in their lineup. We encounter high electromagnetic fields in my line of work all the time. Being in aviation means I need the Zulu function of the GMT Master more often.

Not once have I ever needed to dive to 12,000 feet, cave dive, be the master of a yacht, much less time a yacht race. Not knocking these models but I do raise an eyebrow at them.

Don't get me wrong, I owned a YM for about a year and it is a stunner.

If you need it for your job, you can use as a tax deduction. I deducted my RR watches &their maintenance.

I actually did deduct mine after speaking with my accountant.
