preowned vs. BNIB Daytona

Hello All:

My dilemma which Daytona, preowned V series for $10k, BNIB Z Series for $10.5k or BNIB random serial for $12k? This will not be an every day watch, but in a 4 watch rotation.

While I know I always run the risk of "Get the one that sings to you" or "its a personal choice", I really enjoy getting different perspectives. A lot of times there are very insightful comments that give me food for thought.

I know we each have different thresholds for purchasing new vs. preowned, For me, if I could get a preowned mint V series for somewhere in the 8.5 - 9k, I would jump on it.

Thanks in advance. I am really enjoying this hunt. I know now that the SS Black Dial Daytona is the one for me.

For me it would be a no-brainer... BNIB for $500 more than second hand and $1500 less than the other BNIB. I couldn't give a damn about serial no's...

Likewise. I think that the BNIB z is priced correctly.

I will go for the v serial or random serial BNIB as the new clasp looks and feel much better made then the old one (Z-serial) If you fancy saving money but worries about fine scratches on the used v-serial it can easily get polish off by cape cod unless the scratches are deep.

Given though choices I'd get the BNIB Z for 10.5. Don't know why that's just what looks good to me.

I would also spend the extra $500.00 and buy the BNIB option...nothing like being the first owner. And it doesn't matter to me which serial number or that it is an older model!!!

What year is the Z? I thought they were 2007? Just would like to know because BNIB for a Z just rasiese some questions to me about where it's been for 5 years. Otherwise, great deal.

This. It has been in a safe for 5 years ? I guess even though the watch has never been worn it's already due for a Rolex service ?

If I had the chance, I would save the 1500 and go for the BNIB. I have presumed all three are the same model and you won't have a dilema about dial colour etc.

In the long run the money is not enough not to get the current nib Daytona. Just my thoughts.

They are not the same. The random serial has the new clasp which is better than the previous one. The Z is an old clasp for sure but the V I'm not sure.

My choice would be a random serial for 11K or even a bit less.

Cheers,
K

I disagree. The older clasp with the hole is preferred by some folks and feels a little more secure - at least when I tried one one.

I too prefer a new one for a few extra hundred dollars than a used one. unless if we are talking about a vintage piece.

BNIB Z gets my vote. I always like to be the first owner and $500 in the context of these choices, for me anyway, is well worth the extra expenditure over the preowned. I appreciate that having a random serial number is appealing because it's the latest thing Rolex are doing, but I wouldn't spend extra for this. I can pretty safely say that a serial number has had no influence on my enjoyment of any product I've owned!

I would go with the BNIB random serial. Should be about $11,300. It has the updated clasp which K noted. Imo This is a huge improvement.

New one with the new clasp would be my choice.

Sorry, didn't realize the clasps were different! I based my earlier post on the 2 BNIB options as only differing in the non-random vs random serial numbers. I'd have to alter my opinion in that I'd go for the one with the clasp I thought was more aesthetically pleasing and comfortable (don't know as I haven't tried them). If this happened to be the random serial number one, then I would go for it. No point saving $1.5k if I'm buying something that doesn't suit me.

Rolex Improvements are usually just that--improvements. I've owned both and believe the newer clasp is far superior and every bit as secure. It is the same clasp as the GMT II C. So surprised anyone would think it would be less secure. It is certainly more comfortable. And the cape cod cloths work wonderfully for surface scratches on the PCLs. But to each his own.
