hey everyone price check help! TT rolex sub

hi everyone... a co worker of mine has a family member unloading a watch, I've been patiently waiting to purchase a sub/sport watch, and finally been presented with a chance to purchase one... and at a good price i think?

R serial (claims to be 1998?) Rolex Submariner Two Tone with Blue Face Model 16613 / gold stainless band

I've been away from the forums and havent really been checking prices but he did offer it to me at $5700 box papers and some type of appraisal sheet. it is pretty clean pretty much hardly worn and extra links... just with some quick googling and ebay checking I've been seeing like $5k ish price range...

what you guys think.. what would be getting this at a steal? fair market/ ripoff? should i pass and just purchase from a forum member.. any insight is gladly appreciated!!!

sorry if this isn't the right section. mods please move if so!

In my humble opinion coming from a two time blue sub owner that price for an R serial number TT Sub is high.

For a few thousand more you can buy a new or like new in box TT Blue Sub (non ceramic bezel) from a trusted seller here.

One thing I don't really care for is the lack of gold all the way through the band stopping at the clasp on the older ones.

I would stay away and if it is a matter of money save a bit more and get one much more new.

when did the gold start running all the way through the bands? and was there any other noticeable differences in models from 90s to 2000s?

The gold started running through the clasp in the early 2000's but I'm not sure what model. The solid end links are a bigger deal to me than the gold through the clasp an I believe that happened around the same time. Also, I'm not sure if an R serial had tritium or luminova but that is a pretty big difference. The main thing to look for is the amount of stretch in the bracelet. Ifthe bracelet is tight and the overall condition is good then it's probably a $4,600-$5,000 watch. Good luck and enjoy the 16613!

I sold my 16613 K serial holes case, solid endlinks and gold through buckle for $5300 full box and papers. It was probably to cheap, but had to make room for another. Blue on blue 16613 is my favorite sub. You will love it!!

Thanks guys! I thought the price was a little high now .. Told him ima pass and now he's been very quick to start lowering that price :P!!!

Honestly I'd rather have a black/gold since my date just is already blue gold... Well see if he comes down a bit more!! :)
