Same reason my GMTIIC* does, just because...
I'm not certain if all Rolex sport watches have the triple lock crown system. *WR rated to 100M/330ft

NOT JUST Bigger Crown?? Or does it have all the extra gaskets in the crow but they don't add any WR? Or they do and Rolex just doesn't want to say it? Like you said..."just because" but that isn't a good enough reason in my opinion for a Icon like Rolex. |

No question. But why the larger crown with TripleLock if no additional WR??? |

What's the logic with Rolex deciding what watches get the TripleLock Crown?

I think it has to do with the other ways for water to get into the Oyster ... like the crystal and case back.
Daytonas have triplock yet are only rated to 100m as well |

I think the Explorer is designed well enough as it is.
It would be interesting to know just why Rolex made these choices. The Daytona has trip-lock as well, but I thought that might have something to do with the pushers, but I guess not.

You guys are getting hung up on the Triplock crown... It does not determine the water restance of any Rolex watch.. It's just a marketing tool. Even the Sub used to have a twinlock crown..
Water restance is based on all of the safeguards acting together, but the main difference for the Sub vs. any other triplock watch is the caseback, which is twice as thick.. The famous ad used to sell Subs and showed a "Crushed Oyster Watch", is actually an Explorer with a twinlock crown... the twinlock never failed...

The Rolex Triplock is rated to 5000 metres (7250 psi nom).
Why do Rolex put it on ANY model.

If the Triple Lock Crown and it's extra gaskets etc are not for Water Resistance then what for? If we say Marketing Tool then we should all doubt Rolex and it's technological prowess...we are the only Tools!

I'm not complaining, I like having the bigger crown on my GMTIIC and it's easier to work with. If I remember correctly the main difference between twinlock and triplock is added redundancy and not added depth anyway. I believe the real extra depth protection for the Sub and the Sea Dweller come from their casebacks.

Just a comment but how much water resistance do you really need? 100 - 300 meters is huge. Even if you were to wear the watch diving, who goes that deep? This is more than sufficient for the average wearer.

Yup...if I ever go to 100m or below, it means that either the plane went down or the ship sank!
