TRF Seller over AD
Ever since I was in High School (21 years prior) I have always had a passion for Rolex watches, the Day Date President in particular. In 2002 I had to give up my grail goals due to the funding but bought a new Submariner. Since this purchase I have had every SS Rolex Sport model that they currently make (except Sub C and GMT II C). It was now time to finally step up and finally get the watch that sparked my interest in ROLEX to begin with.
Now I am not a rich man, but a public servant whose pay is determined on Union Contracts. So to pull this purchase off at this time I had to sell / trade in some of my other watches. I did not want to go through the hassle of trying to sell these watches on my own and did not want to wait until I could find buyers (I'm also very impatient). So I headed out to my local AD's to wheel and deal. There are now only 3 AD's in my area due to ROLEX taking away dealers. Now I have only one good relationship with the AD that I have bought all my watches through, but wanted to go there last to see how good of a deal I was really going to get. I was in search for a WG DD II with black roman dial. The first AD I went to is in a mall setting. It was during Xmas time and me and my wife were shopping for other items and were not dressed to impress. They did not have a WG DD II only a YG. I asked to try it on and I was then taken in a back room and locked in an office with 2 employees and my wife (prevent me from running out of the store with it). They did not have a WG in any of their stores and would have to order it. When it came to price they could not give me an exact price until I was certain I was going to order it and leave a deposit. NEXT!!!! I went to the second AD this time in an attempt to find a sales person that will take me serious to purchase my DD II. I was greeted warmly and had a knowledgable gentleman help me. At first I don't know if he took me serious when I inquired about the DD II, but we had a conversation about the watch and dial configurations. This dealer also did not have a WG DD II but informed me that one was on order. Now the time came to negotiate the deal (trade 2 watches in pay the balance). He asked me if I had ever bought watches from this AD. I truthfully told him that I've attempted to and would like to buy from them but their prices were always the highest. He excused himself to have to go speak with the Manager to see what the best deal he could do. After about 10 minutes he returned and only offered 10 % off retail plus tax. The Manager also did not really want to take the trades and offered me silly prices to avoid it. Off to the last AD!! Now at the last AD they know I'm serious and are very helpful. This AD also does not have a WG DD II to look at and had to order it. The price I was given was 20% off retail plus tax. Now it was time to talk about the trade in's. Although more receptive than the 2nd dealer still not a good deal. So now I contact my Trusted TRF Seller Oscar the "Body Bump". I have purchased two Panerai's from him and have also traded watches to him, all flawless transactions. From the moment I contact Oscar he takes me serious and is very helpful. Oscar researches the WG DD II and informed me that he could get it for me. We work out the price and I'm blown away at how much he was giving me for my trades and the price of the DD II. I place the order with him. As I said I am an impatient person and I have daily conversations with Oscar. Oscar never made me feel that I was bothering him and in fact I believe he was more excited about getting me this watch than I was getting it. After 1 week and a few days Oscar informs me that my "grail" watch has arrived. The transaction happens as discussed, flawlessly. I receive the watch and discovered that it arrived as discussed I have a brand new (random serial) WG DD II, all stickers / tags in place, warranty card in my name and dated. PERFECT!!!!!!! I know some here say the AD experience is worth the extra price.. I would have to disagree on this purchase. Since the watches delivery Oscar has contacted me several times inquiring on how I'm enjoying it. |

Great story! The DD II has quickly became my grail Rolex too, a few months after the initial worries of heft and stuff. White gold models seem to be the rarest at ADs, probably because if one wants a DD II, they want to make it look like it is made of GOLD My personal favorite is the WG DD II with black arab conic dial.

That is a fantastic watch - congratulations! I have seen your watch with white dial Romans in real life and it is FANTASTIC. It doesn't fly under the radar in the least, like an SS model. Rather, it shines with a burning white light - absolutely stunning.
You and I have come to our wonderful DayDateII's from very opposite ends of the spectrum, but I'm sure we both derive a great deal of joy and satisfaction from our Presidents. I'm curious, are the numerals on your watch white gold? I would LOVE to see more close up shots of your watch to highlight that dial, as I will consider a swamp of my Champagne Romans for that Black Romans when service comes in 5 or 10 years. |

Nice watch! Congrats!
I have never done business with Oscar. From what I've read, including your post, he is a trustworthy individual. Now if I can just get my kids through college, 5 more painfull years, I'll be in touch with him!

The bezel looks multi-colored. Is that just a reflection?
(sweet, btw... )

Nice success story and beautiful watch.
It's kind of sad that trying to buy a Rolex from an AD often ends up feeling like you're on a used car lot. I'll buy all my future watches from TRF. |
