Hi Guys,

Is this a good buy at $4,500.00? The seller says it's a 37mil series circa 1973, with all original parts. I'm torn between this and a 2007 16610 at the same price. Thanks! Cheers!

But it's up to you, do you need a date?

Assuming that the vintage Sub is all original and no major mechanical problems (can't really tell much from that one photo), take the 5513. That's a very good price. Nice patina on the dial, although the hands look a little darker perhaps, but that's minor. Could just be the photo. Good luck!

Patina ok, bezel inser ok, pearl present, lugs invisible on this pic, dialcseems nice, crysal in good condition...

Little cleanup and she's ready to go !

Having just bought a 5513 myself, I would say that it is a good price. Hands might have a bit of corrosion, but so what. Question is what are you after? If you want to watch simply for effect (i.e. presence) then go the modern. If you are wanting to stand out from the crowd then take the 5513. Similarly, if the watch will have a hard life (do you intend to swim or dive with it), perhaps the modern is a better choice. Very different beasts. I know what I would take though! plexi watches simply look better IMO!

Well,..I think it's a question of functionality. The 5513 is the iconic vintage for many. That said, is a measure of luminosity and a date important to you?

I just got my 5513 back yesterday after a full factory overhaul. They stated its current replacement value as CAD$6320 + taxes. Is the bracelet original? I'm thinking it should be a 9315 with folded links.

The asking price for yours seems fair, but you cam expect to spend most of another $1000 for a factory overhaul if it's needed.

Sorry but I can't seem to edit my post, providing you additional pictures from the seller. He confirmed that there are no mechanical problems and there is no corrosion on the hands. This will be my first vintage that's why I don't know what to expect:) I hope you guys understand. Thanks a lot!

What is confusing ? What part of " the dial is shot " is confusing ? Rolex vintage watches is all about the dial being original and in what condition .

Hi actually the confusion is on my part whether I'll buy this or not. Since I know nothing about Rolex vintage, I might as well heed the advise of experts here. They are referring to the 53 to 60 seconds markers as shot. Thanks

When you are paying these prices for a vintage watch, you are paying for a well preserved (or worth preserving)example of the marque.

This one is not: as was previously indicated, the dial is not up to collector standards.

You would be better off paying $1000 more for a good example in the long run.

Work with some of the well known guys on the forum who will not steer you wrong and you will not regret the decision.

Passing was a good idea, a lot of the value of that watch is in the dial and I would prefer one that was in much better shape.....
