That is because it's a "200 metres" and not the "normal" (now discontinued) "300 metres/1,000 ft"

Cause it's from a vintage submariner. The submariner is waterproof 300 meters and this one is from a 200 meter waterproof submariner.

About US$20 seems to be the average going price for the last generation, 1000ft/300m, anchor so the premium for this one seems to be unjustified.

Although I wouldn't buy anything on eBay for more than maybe $20 due to concerns for fraud, I have to admit eBay does a wonderful job of answering the age old question, "What's this thing worth?" with "Whatever the highest bidder is willing to pay for it."

The free market at its finest. Assuming of course, that there's no fraud involved, which unfortunately is rampant on eBay.

I haven't bothered to investigate this auction, but sometimes you can have a couple of folks who really, really want a particular item and drive up the price mano a mano, and sometimes you have sellers who bid against the buyers in an effort to inflate the price.

Me, I'm happy to buy a SD Anchor, new not vintage, from Jeff for $20.

Well like everything Rolex today its only worth what someone is willing to pay.And for a vintage piece to complete a set, box papers and anchor etc could add money to the total watch sale.Who would have thought back in the late 1970s into the 1980s that a watch
called a daytona, and not even a Rolex movement. And at that time a very poor seller and cost between £700 -£800 now are selling for upward to £15000.I have a ladies Tudor box from the early 1960s and someone offered me £125 for it a few weeks back but I said no,today they are like like hens teeth. And speaking of anchors I gave three away to certain members on this forum a few months back

Well, maybe it won't sell, and we'll have an "encore" of that auction

It is not uncommon foe the 660ft/200m anchors to sell for up to US$400, but this is nothing compared to the 1665 Sea-Dweller ones(2000ft/610m).

I have only seen one for sale, and that went for US$1,700. I went as high as US$1,600.

243.50 is a lot of money for a metal anchor. That price means that these anchors are quite prestigious
