Well the Explorer I was officially released in 1953. The 50th anniversary for this model was in 2003 but I guess Rolex decided to leave the Explorer the way as it is.
The name "Daytona" was officially released in 1962, even though Rolex already had made an Oyster Cosmograph model in 1961. The 50th anniversary of the Daytona would still be in 2012 since thats when the name was released. As for the Explorer II, that watch was released with a large orange hand back in 1971. So the 50th anniversary for the Exp II will be in the year 2021.

I wonder if something special will happen in 2008 when the name "ROLEX" has its 100 year's birthday.

But again: Rolex as a COMPANY had its 100 year birthday in 2005, and that year we got the new GMT II (in YG). But as said, the NAME "Rolex" will be 100 years old next year, and it will be interesting to see if something new comes up.

Yes you are right. But to release the Bubbleback again would be nice.

I can see it now a Rolex 100 Year limited edition to celebrate its first 100 years.
It would have 100 diamonds or something that would cost much more than I would want to pay. It would be neat to see. |

I think Basel for about the next three years will be really exciting. I foresee Rolex updating all their current models and also coming out with many new models.
I would like to see a Updated Explorer 1. 38 - 39mm case. Maxi Dial, or at least the larger hands. Large case lugs, like on the newer Datejust models. Personally, I would keep the older style bracelet, or if the new style keep all brushed steel. |
