Vintage nirvana, my new 1680
On a recent trip out to San Francisco I had the opportunity to meet up with Jacek at his office take a look at his collection. After falling in love with my 1675, I wanted to take a look at more vintage pieces and from the moment I walked in I knew I was in the right place. Jacek spent almost 2 hours showing me just about everything I could imagine from red subs to a Steve McQueen explorer as well as numerous GMT's....I was
After trying on numerous watches I was fairly set that I would pick up another GMT but I kept coming back to one particular 1680 that just felt "right". The warmth of the plastic crystals just does something for me that that a sapphire cannot match. And as much as I liked the 16760 I recently picked up from a fellow TRF'er I wasn't in love with it like I was about this 1680 or my 1675. Even better was the fact that the serial number fell in the range of my birth year which, while not my primary goal, only added to my attraction to the watch. After a quick negotiation I ended up leaving the fat lady in Jacek's hands and walking out my new 1680 On Jaceks recommendation I made the trip across town and met with Giovanni over at the RSC for a pressure check and to check out the general condition of the watch. Giovanni was a outstanding guy to talk to and got my watch right in to check things out. Ended up the top hat crystal had been previously installed incorrectly and ended up cracking when Giovanni went to remove it. I told him I was leaving town that night on the red eye back east and he immediately took the watch to the back and reinstalled a new crystal and seals. When I called Jacek about the needed repairs he didn't miss a beat and told me he would take care of the service cost and to enjoy my new watch. Couldn't be happier with the transaction, to me the 1680 is a great compliment to my 1675 and I have now found my own personal vintage nirvana. Special thanks to Jacek and Giovanni for making this such a great experience, both these guys know what service is all about and I will without hesitation do business with either of them again Sorry for the long read, here's the ceremonial introduction pics of my new 1680 to the forum [IMG][/IMG] Leaving the SF RSC headed up to Chinatown [IMG][/IMG] |
