Rolex Verification (UK)
Hi There
I'm new to the forum (although have lurked for a while). I've finally decided to take the plunge and buy a Rolex Daytona (gulp!) and have found one via a dealer from a web search (after three false promises by others that claimed they could "find" me one). He does have a web presence and an eBay profile but because I'm an overly cautious sole (its a hell of a lot of money!) I have asked to have it verified at a Rolex dealer here in the UK for my peace of mind. He has happily agreed and is prepared to travel to an AD of my choice. Of course I have made a rather huge assumption here!................ That an AD will be prepared to do so? I guess they may charge? I'll be honest and say that my one experience of a local AD was somewhat "stuffy and pretentious" so before I start phoning dealers in the London/Reading area I thought I'd ask the question here. Does anyone have any experience of this? Many, many thanks in advance. Regards Barney |

When I sold my SS Daytona in 2010 understandably the buyer wanted to do exactly the same and called a local AD beforehand to make sure that they would indeed verify. When we got there the salesman, pleasant and helpful enough, gave a cursory look over the watch and paperwork and said it was fine.
Moral of the story is don't expect too much from a salesperson and do your own homework. |

I've been to many ADs in the US and I've found that a lot of the sales people are not that knowledgable. I doubt they would be willing to open it up to verify the movement because they could potentially be held liable for not pressure testing the oyster case. There are 150 moving parts in a Rolex. You'd just have to hope that the inside is 100% Rolex, because if it's not, Rolex will not service the watch.

In such cases, I highly suggest doing business with a trusted seller here on TRF.

As mentioned, deal with one the many reputable sellers here. This will definitely take the worry out of the equation.
Good luck! |
