Hello gentlemen, I found this on my daily rummaging, no pics of between lugs (I have asked for some), I don't think the dial is genuine. I know it say's refinished, but shouldn't this have a t<25 dial? rather than just "swiss"?
Case looks ok, from what I can see. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...#ht_684wt_1396

At the very least, the dial is not authentic, in my judgement.
Others will chime in on the rest of the watch, but the story sounds a bit cheesy to me.

price isnt crazy , rest of the description sounds ok. but by the time you had put a nice dial , a set of hands and a good bracelet it would be at its price , so is it cheap after all.????

Thanks for the info guys, as nice as the watch is in the link, its quite a bit more than the one in the OP. The other problem I have is trying to find a seller who will work with you on customs declarations, the tax can end up amounting to 25% of the purchase price if brought from outside Europe (4% import duty on value + 18% tax on total + clearing fee's).
After more research, it is clear that the dial is a dud, but pretty impossible to find one of the right vintage at an realistic price. If I had a lead on a dial, I would go for it, especially as I have a very nice 93150 bracelet sitting here..

I also wouldn't buy a watch with a refinished dial, especially if it is not correct and poor quality.
Rolex produced a few non chapter ring dials with the "Swiss" mention at the bottom. However, these dials were gilt (gold color letters). I cannot see well on the pics if the dial is a gilt one. Most of these gilt refinished dials have the gold color letters printed on the TOP of the black color, which is wrong and easy to spot. You must also check if the serial number of the watch corresponds to the dial. Otherwise, you end up with a Frankenwatch. Lastly, the crown really bothers me. |

As a buyer I would not be interested in something that has been "doctored" to look like something that it is not.The fact that full disclosure of the dial refinsh has been made does nothing for the value of the piece. What bothers me the most about this practice of "aging" is that a future seller may be too tempted to resist the urge to try to sell this watch as the genuine article to some unsuspecting vintage noob or someone else might by it for the sole purpose of resale as a genuine vintage.I would prefer not to see this type of thing for sale at all for the sake of the vintage market but I don`t suppose that there any way to stop it short of branding it as counterfeit.
