Job interview...which Rolex to wear.

Interviewing for a sales job in insurance.

This is new to me, and I am excited about the opportunity.

Which watch should I wear on the interview.

#1 16800 Submariner from 1986...got it when I was 21

#2 DSSD

#3 HULK

#4 WG Sub

Since I love the glidelock, and #1 doesn't have it.........#1 out.
DSSD maybe a tad bulky..................................#2 out.
-----------------------------------------

Between #3 beautiful SS, with some Green sparkle and #4 WG bling.....will anyone know what it is.....(I will).....so if they are not interested in hiring me....well at least I still got my Smurf.

Opinions ?.............I say more folks say #3.....because, "YOU WOULDN'T LIKE ME WHEN I GET ANGRY" (sorry for the caps, but that was the, "HULK", speaking.)

anyone that fits under your shirt cuff.
Employers do not base merit on a watch as most of them wouldn't know what one was.

Least flashy, but I'm not sure which one that would be.

Hulk. I knew it.

116619 too flashy.

16800 same watch (I mean identical watch I got from the parents when I turned 21....classy and classic....but I want the watch to pop a little).

DSSD......if someone comes running into the office and starts screaming, "A CAR JUST DROVE INTO A CANAL !", well........people would look at me with the DSSD like I was some sort of rescue diver......scratch the DSSD.

Hulk again. We better give him the job.....we don't want him to get angry......

#1. i could also trade you a Winn Dixie Air King 25 year service watch for that #1. i could even get that watch to you prior to your interview !

Seriously, best of luck, i hope they make you a good offer!

Why least flashy? There is nothing wrong at all with having a nice, or expensive watch when doing a Job interview.

I recommend wearing the blue WG sub. Why not? It shows you have good taste and im sure they would appreciate that!

Why does everyone keep saying the 16800.....while it is beautiful, and I am damn proud of it....and it's not like I am not going to wear it from time to time, but I want to rock something different.

Someone please tell me to wear the HULK.....

Least flashy. Most employers are not that superficial: they want to be dazzled by your brain, not your watch.

Wear the HU...16800!

I think all of the choices would be great. After all, I believe if you wear a shirt the watch will be hidden, therefore I think the LV would be just fine (although I think I would prefer the WG Submariner).

my advice would be to think about and notice in the moment your eye contact with him or her interviewing, and break the contact yourself some of the time, and others hold it enough that they break the contact themselves, and if there's an even break you can establish a subunderstood (not subconscious, but oh we won't go there) trust.

and be yourself and the rest of the cliche that doesn't apply cause you know best

Maybe WG sub......hummm....

It is a sales job, and I would only want straight commission.

-----------------------------
Cost to the customer being the same.

WG Sub......too flashy to buy a policy from. I plan to rotate my watches.....but want to make a good first impression. If they think I can make money for them.....and I check out (I do).....maybe I will get a new opportunity.

If your job is doing high end sales, having a nice watch actually comes to an advantage beleive it or not.

I have been told by some sales people that went doing high end sales, their customers can relate to them when they see they too have "money" or nice watches/cars etc etc...

Id definitely wear the WG sub if I were you, no doubt about it! I would wear a blue striped shirt under your jacket too if I were you, would be a great match!

Roll up sleeves or not ?

I kinda want to show off the watch.......Hulk or Smurf.

To convey that I am successful and know how to be successful, or will that make me look like an a$$........

If you have confidence and feel good about yourself.....then in sales that's what you need to do provided you have a product that can help your customer....or at least that is what I think. If you feel good about yourself then will will project that. Good luck selling something when you feel weak, scared, and small (figuratively).

It's fun thinking about which watch to wear for the interview......of course while my watches look great....ALL MY TIES LOOK like crap....gotta fix that....maybe buy a new tie at Macy's tonight.

LOL.. has several Rolex watches.. skimps on the tie. Get a serious tie from Saks or Neiman.. as well as a good suit. If I saw a guy with a nice looking watch and a crappy suit and tie, I would assume it was a fake :-/ (I work in sales..)

And for GOD SAKES get a decent pair of shoes. What the hell is it with these guys and snub nose shoes and chunky rubber soles. Buy $100 shoes.. lasts you a year.. buy $200 shoes lasts you 2 years.. buy $300 shoes and it lasts you for life.

"It’s better to have one good pair of shoes than a half dozen cheap ones, because the cheap ones look cheap even when they’re new, but the new ones look good even when they’re old. Quality by definition is the best you can get for your money. If you buy a pair of shoes for $500 and they last you 10 years, that’s $50 per year. If you buy a pair for $100 and they last you six months, which was the more expensive? I think the Old Money WASP guys were just cheap, so they always bought the best".

If which Rolex you wear is your biggest concern, I hate to be the one to say it, but you may have to reorder your priorities.

Salesmen are hired based on their ability to sell, not their ability to dress extravagantly. While meticulous attention to detail is important in a salesman, an expensive watch does not necessarily convey a sense of "honesty" to your clients. A good sales manager will know his product and his clientelle, and will breifly, but incisively judge your appearance to determine if you're dressed "appropriately".

Solid gold cufflinks, a $10k watch, or a 4ct diamond ring may not work in your favor. While impressing the in-laws, such extravagant adornments can be off-putting to potential middle-class clients, who expect their insurance company (and its staff) to be frugal in their spending.

The sales manager, if incisive, will notice these details, and deduct points for them. Further, a Rolex may raise additional concerns... if you can afford such a watch when unemployed, what's your motivating factor in a job? Are you independently wealthy, and doing this just to kill time?

Further, the time you've wasted picking out your appointments could have been better spent going over the interview in your head to prepare yourself for outfield questions they may throw at you.

Wear a Timex, and sell yourself on your ability to sell.

Ugh... reminds me of my gorgeous Taryn Rose loafers (favorite shoes ever) that I took to get resoled... and forgot to pick up for 9 months... at which point they were gone forever. :(

Wear whatever you feel like wearing. Chances are the person interviewing isn't going to be a WIS and likely could care less. The only people I know who actually care about watches and would notice are right here on TRF! Good luck and hope you get it!
