Icon2 SOLD: ROLEX vintage Daytona PAUL NEWMAN 6239 1.9mil (circa 1968) ~ 'THREE COLOR DIAL'

Good day, TRF!

Formalities out of the way first: Overnight shipping and insurance are included in US, will ship overseas, but at the buyer's expense. Price quoted is for payment by bank wire, PayPal/credit cards are OK, but buyer pays the fees (typically around 3% of amount, higher for AMEX). Returns accepted if the watch is misrepresented in ANY way. Have TONS of references, on and off TRF. Face-to-face in Southern Ohio or Northern Kentucky is fine, we can meet at an AD if that makes you comfortable. PM me with any questions, or call/text me at 513 680 6239 ~ Greg

Much to my dismay, I have to part with this piece. It's truly a case of the chase being sweeter then the catch itself - once this watch arrived, I couldn't help but to admire it - however, knew right away that I would never wear it. Plus, I wasn't able to sell the Jag in time So, without boring you any further, for your consideration, a rare and original

Rolex Stainless Steel DAYTONA COSMOGRAPH “PAUL NEWMAN”

With an extremely rare ‘three-color’ dial

ref 6239 ~ 1,988,037 serial (circa 1968)

Priced at $74,500

CONDITION: In phenomenal shape for the vintage that it is – just look at many pics of the actual watch for sale posted. Showing surface wear, but no deep scratches, dings or dents at all. This watch appears to have never been polished, engraved numbers in the bezel are very sharp (the ink has come off over the years, but has not been re-done, like few examples on the market today). All lines and angles are correct. Original “Newman” dial is very clean, hands show some normal patina. Plastic crystal shows light, even wear. Crown is nice and tight, lugs have original chamfering on the back. The tapered bracelet (correct for the model) shows normal stretch, structurally very sound. The clasp is nice and tight with all of the correct stampings for the vintage/market.

Mechanically, this watch is unbelievably sharp – losing less than 20 seconds/day. Chronograph function operates as it should. Winding is nice and tight.

ABOUT THE WATCH:

*Automatic-winding Rolex certified chronometer movement, Calibre 722-1 with 17 jewels, adjusted in 3 positions, featuring column wheel construction

*Stainless steel case and bracelet with C&I clasp (all original)

*Fixed bezel with ‘Units per Hour’ scale

*White dial with black subdials, ‘Daytona’ and outside minute chapter in red (this is why it is referred to as the 3-color dial)

*Original center minutes and hours hands with normal patina

*Small seconds at ‘9’

*Chronograph: center seconds, 30-min counter at ‘3’, 12-hour counter at ‘6’

*Screw down crown

*Correct original Rolex plastic crystal

CASE DIMENSIONS:

Diameter - 37 mm (not including lugs, crown and pushers)

Thickness – 13.7mm

actual watch for sale:
