Maybe I'm crazy, but I made the lady mad at Mayors...
Took a trip to ATL yesterday and dropped into mayors to look around. Quickly she noticed my Deepsea. She wanted to me to take it of so she could look at it.. I politely declined. Then she offered to take it to the back for a free cleaning. I politely declined again. She kept pushing the issue, I kept declining but finally got mad and just said NO! I think her feelings got hurt, but o well. I might be crazy, but what would stop them from swithing watches? I would know if it wasnt mine, but to the unexpecting person, they might not.. Does anyone esle take them up in the free cleaning offer? was I wrong?

Mayors is not going to switch your watch. She was just being (maybe overly) polite. That said, I would have declined as well.

I would decline free cleaning also, however I would say something like " Thanks, but no thanks, I just had it cleaned yesterday" .
Now if she continue to push the issue then ,then she deserve what ever is coming at her. |

I would have had no problems taking it off to let her see it but I would not want her to clean it. I was in the Rolex boutique in Chicago and the saleman there wanted to see my SubC LV. This was last spring before they were abundantly available and I had no issues letting him check it out. He was wearing white Rolex gloves so there is no way he could have hurt my watch.

I decline to let AD's clean my watch as well. I would doubt any watch switching would go on as: #1 your watch has a unique serial number on it and #2 any reputable jewelry store will have every angle of their floor continuously video monitored and recorded. If anything did happen, you could sue them for far more than the cost of a brand new Sea Dweller.

Next time just say you prefer to clean it yourself and leave it at that.

Tell them you know how to clean it yourself.
Sometimes it's a trick to keep you browsing more in the store and maybe that will lead to a purchase.

I would have declined the cleaning offer too. I wouldn't have been worried about a switch, but I would have been concerned about her damaging or scratching it. I think she deserved the "NO!". An employee of a jewelry store should be sensitive to customers' reticence in giving their valuables over. Ask once. If they get a "no," why push the issue?

I probably would have asked how they cleaned it and let them (while watching).

I would politely decline a cleaning. Other than HAVING to hand over my Rolex for adjustments, maintenance, etc., I don't trust anyone to handle it as carefully as I do.

Cleaning is merely a service they provide like any other jeweler. Jewelers offer to clean my wife's ring and our watches all the time. We politely decline and go on with our browsing. I certainly wouldn't worry about Mayors switching your watch for a fake. They are one of Rolexes largest accounts if not the largest. No way in hell are they going to risk their dealer status for your or anyone else's watch.

I would have taken a free cleaning. I wonder why Mayors never offered it to me :( .
On a somewhat related topic, I've noticed that the sales people at the two Mayors in the Tampabay area are very high pressured. It gets to the point where I'm afraid to browse the Majors at International Mall when I'm in the mall because they are so pushy trying to sell me their datejusts... and other slow moving inventory. |

My wife and I went into the Body Shop at the Bean Town Mega Mega Mall and the assistant asked she could take me to the back room for a cleaning..... The missus said yes, hoping they would switch me for a newer model or at least send me back cleaned up.

I heard that the lady is now saying you were wearing a look a like and therefore wouldn't tke it off
I understand you don't want someone to handle your watch, I doubt an AD would do anything to it but I'm with you if it were any other store. Plus -whAt if- she drops it by accident, scratches it etc. it's your watch and your own right. Wanna feel good, call the manager of the store and let him/her know that the customer service by this lady was great.

Are you serious? An AD switching your watch with another? In other words, committing fraud and theft as well? And you can "assure" us this happens at "other places" - authorised dealers? If this is true, then you should name them and also report them to the police. Kindly tell us who these "other places" are.

Seriously. No offense, but an AD switching or any watch shop switching any watch within a few minutes is absurd. Sorry.

The ADs make too much money from their line of Rolex so they will not jeopardize it by pulling stunts like switching watches. I let my AD do it just to make him feel useful.
