New Member, New Watch (Daytona 116519) + some questions!
Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum (even though i posted a couple replies already). I recently bought this Meteorite/WG Daytona which I can't get enough of. (In the future I will post some better pictures)
I'm already looking to get an aftermarket strap though since the rolex standard length is a bit long anyway (i need a "short") and a forum member's ABP strap caught my eye. Only thing is the ABP strap wont be installed by them. I will have it delivered to me. Which leaves me with a choice: Do the swap myself or bring it to a jeweler. I already asked the Rolex Service Center (I'm in central London) and they politely declined. I would obviously get the appropriate tools if I were to do the work myself (speaking of which is just the Bergeon 6111 all I need?). Sometimes I feel like I would be more careful than your average jeweler. Or would you advise that someone doing it for the first time should not attempt it on a WG daytona! (I did a search on the forum already, but didn't find anything specifically relating to the latest daytona cases. So figured better safe asking than sorry.) I was also curious if there is a difference in quality between rolex pins and "other" pins out there. Should I make sure to use the rolex pins with the new strap? Thanks for your help! |

Congrats, welcome, beautiful watch. I think Dan Pierce would probably be able to give great advice on swapping straps. I personally would not try it myself unless of course you know what your doing.

It's just a spring bar and not very difficult. Using a Bergeon 6111 or a very fine screwdriver and lots of tape(!), you can swap it out without issue. I'd probably recommend a little practice on a less important watch beforehand.

My grail, but I prefer the 116509 with bracelet. Jealously is an understatement. Enjoy that beautiful piece!!!

It looks really nice!
Gold is really soft. One small mistake with the Bergeon and you have a nice scratch on your daytona. I would find a reputable Rolex repair in London and trust it to them..remember that its important to find someone who you completely trust with your watch. I'm Sure somebody here on the forum can help you find one. I trust my watches with my repair shop where I live. The jeweler knows how ocd I am and is as carefull as one can be... |

I tried this with a Bergeon 6111 and scratched my Daytona in two places. Have an AD do it.

Thanks for the replies so far. Even though I want to learn to do it myself, maybe I'll practice on other watches first. If anyone knows any central london shop they trust their watches with, please let me know!

Good choice not the watch you want to be experimenting on WG, Pristine, etc, just out of curiosity can the lenght be adjusted through the clasp/buckle to fit your wrist on current strap. I have a small wrist myself & with that deployant clasp/buckle on leather was wondering if that would be an issue. Thanks

Limited adjustability compared to the bracelet versions. Just the clasp adjustments.

The clasp is adjustable, so it may or may not be an issue for you, but i already have it at the shortest setting. It is still wearable, but moves around too much for my taste. I can slip a finger inbetween the strap and my wrist. My AD (who is actually US based, NJ) told me i need the short strap, but they didnt have any in stock so they needed to order. Now I'm back in London and I decided to get an ABP strap anyway...

Congrats. Great choice. I had the same one with white face. I can say first hand, its a softy as others have said. Scratches if you breath on it. Embrace them as beauty marks and wear the hell out of it!!

Welcome and congratulations on a beautiful watch. For your information, Rolex manufactures S, M and L straps for daytonas. I ordered a S and fits perfectly.

Congratulations on such a beautiful watch! As stated, I don't think there's a problem with you changing the strap but I would be very careful with it, otherwise I do believe you can find great jewelers to do the job (not all of them are careless).

Beautiful watch. I'd have a pro mess with the straps. 1 wrong move and you will have a bad scratch on a beautiful watch.

This was my first ever daytona and I still one it. It is gorgeous in the light. Congratulations on a stunning piece, I have swapped my strap many a time as I to have small wrists, I used a watch tool with lots of tape. Going to an Ad does not mean you will not get scratches:(.
