Just my opinion.
I have had several Rolex since 1989, but I am not sure, if I am very happy where Rolex is going with all the latest models and updates. Chunk maxi cases and so on.
I think, I prefer these better: I will give this to my girlfriend/fiance today as birthday present: And my daily beater: What do You think? |

You have a lucky girlfriend Fin.
A Daytona as a beater is something we all want but find hard to accomplish. Owning one is not the problem. Beating it is.

If Rolex doesn't sustain you anymore, there are myriad other brands to lust after!

Although I like the new GMT models, the styling of the classic cases and dials is the best look Rolex has had. Long live the lug-hole.

If Rolex styling keeps veering off into the unkown the way it has recently then I guess I`ll be keeping my Submariner for a long time to come.

I think your girlfriend is lucky to have a nice guy like you
Regarding your feelings for the "new style Rolex" is very easy to solve: Go vintage or move on to Panerai, Omega, and Breitling etc. If you don’t like Rolex anymore – don’t buy them!! Things aren’t that complicated

Dont know how these blocky cases and 'blingy' stones and all came into vogue but the certainly have taken over the Rolex design team. I find them ackward and unappealing. I've been a Rolex fan for a long time but the path they have taken is driving me away. I'll stick to the classic Rolex designs and look elsewhere for modern watch purchases. This years Basel unveilings have been a wakeup call for me.

That's a nice collection you got there. I believe Rolex is just going with the times and expectedly have to evolve. If you prefer the older styles you can always go the vintage route or even venture out to other brands.

She was very happy to get it. Quote:
I have had many of those from SS date to DD:s and I am very happy now with my 16750 vintage look and Z-serial Daytona, even it gets some scratches when I use it as a daily beater, and been travelling with it to many countries. I also need that chrono in sports, so it is perfect to me. The only problem is, that I do not want to wear any other watch now.. My opinion is, that after Panerai came popular, Rolex felt, that their watches are too small and market need bigger watches. That happened also to other brands, but lately Panerai fever is not so hot anymore, than it was earlier, so lets see, what will happen in the future. But, as said also here before, Rolex prices start to be also so high, so maybe (just maybe) when I am looking for new watch, I will think seriously about PP Aquanaut or Nautilus. Or AP ROO. Maybe I do not see myself spending too much for new models, but there will always be customers, who are willing to pay just anything to get "Rolex". They can ask here also after that, "Can I shower with my 300M WR Sub". But, dont get me wrong, I am still a loyal Rolex-man and just love my beaters. And, we all have different opinions and that is just ok. |
