Gold DD 118238 bracelet, what's it worth?
Hi guys,
a quick question: IF i would buy a new Rolex 118238 yellow gold Day Date (see picture) from a AD and IF i would let the AD remove the complete bracelet before i wear it (i would like a leather strap). What would the complete bracelet would be worth and for how much would I be able to sell it? Also, would it be easy to sell it or does nobody want such a thing? (these pictures are not mine, I just borrowed them) Thanks guys Pietermann |

Well the value is only what someone is willing to pay,now the scrap gold value would be considerably less that what Rolex would charge for a new bracelet. So if you could not fine someone that wanted a Rolex gold bracelet then afraid to most people it would be the gold scrap value only.

PAdi56 is right if you cant find a buyer for a new Rolex Pres. bracelet it is only worth scrap gold. I can tell you you would take a bath selling for scrap. I just happened to be looking in the vintage section and found a guy looking to buy a yellow gold Pres. bracelet. FUNNY. Personally I would never buy that watch with the hope of selling the bracelet but given the time there seems to be buyers out there.
President YG bracelet for a Day Date 1810 I have the Day Date 1810 now for some weeks and it is on a black leather strap. But (as you'll have been reading in my previous posts) I would like to buy a YG President bracelet. My wrist are kind of sweating in the summer and that is the main reason to get a President. I know . . . leather bracelets are not (that) expensive. Still if you want a nice looking croc, doesn't have to be an ABP, France, it still will cost some money. So : Summer time -> President Winter time -> back on a leather strap. Also than I have 2 different Day Dates ;-) Now my question : Would you buy a President with (visible) clasp or go for the hidden clasp ? Visible is correct with the age of the watch But I think the hidden looks better Any advice please . . . |

There are a lot of owners of older day-date wat he's whose bracelets gave up the ghost long ago due to being stretchd out. Many would like a new president bracelet but the Rolex replacement cost is prohibitive. A price somewhere below replacement cost from Rolex and above scrap gold value is where your bracelet should be valued.
It can't be too close to rolex replacement cost as anyone wiling to pay that would have done it. It would help to know which models of Day-Date the bracelet can fit onto.

I think you'd be better off keeping the bracelet even if you don't use it.

Better option might to just buy the head on one of the forums, have it serviced if it hasn't been recently and put it on a strap yourself. Probably save a lot more money that way - enough for another watch even.

83208 President for a DD 36mm 118238 have a MRSP of 14700us$ (each link is 520 us$ if you want to sell it link by link).
You'll be a lucky man if you find a buyer at this price. |

A like new 18K YG President bracelet (or even one with a bit of stretch) is a very desirable item IMO and worth a lot more than scrap.
As already stated, there are many owners of an older and otherwise very nice Day-Date who have a stretched out bracelet and would love to upgrade it but Rolex wants and arm and a leg for a replacement.

A better idea would be to simply buy a 116138 & keep the change...

The OP is trying to determine the vaue of a new un- stretched president bracelet he would separate from a new watch head. That is a far cry from a scrap vaue stretched out bracelet. With a MSRP for a new bracelet at $14,700 I would expect the bracelet to be worth $9000 plus.

I too would save the $$$ and pick something up on leather instead... Why pay high dollar for something that you will not use or sell at a reduced price IMO

Figure the President bracelet weights about 70 grams. 18K is 75% pure gold and at the current price of scrap gold that is about $3000. worth of scrap.
As a never used Rolex bracelet that would retail for $9000. or more as a replacement item on the secondary market. DON"T SCRAP IT ! ! ! |
