BNIB or Used - differences?

I'm considering getting a Milgauss Black. The price difference between a BNIB and a 6-month old near mint is $700.00. It's going to be my everyday watch and probably keep for a long time. Is it worth spending extra $700 to get my name on the warranty card? I don't really care about the hairline scratches on the older watch since I'll be getting those on my new one as well... Let me know what you guys think!

Are you comparing the used price to Brand new from an AD? or comparing it to BNIB from TRF?

As long as the seller of the used watch is reputable, I'd much rather save the $700.

Well, that seems like a good amount of saving if its mint. Its up to you though really, depends on what you prefer.

Does the name on the warranty card make any difference when I have to get it serviced? That's the only thing I'm worried about... (and sorry $525 difference and NEAR MINT - 90/100).

That is very debatable - I don't have experience with that, I hear it go's both ways.

However, I can tell you this - If the person you are buying from has his own name on the warranty card - if he writes you a receipt saying you are the new owner and signs it, it more than definitely should be valid.

Paperwork is always key. You will also need paperwork regardless to prove it is actually yours and you bought it for X amount of dollars.

with $525, I would try and go BNIB + peace of mind.

The only thing I've needed my Rolex warranties for, so far, is for regulation.

$525 would pay for a full service or very close to it.

Sorry for being a Rolex newbie, but what's regulation? How often do you need to do it? Thanks

Simple explanation: Regulation involves hooking the watch up to a timing machine to assess the watch's accuracy in a number of positions. It can be adjusted + or - seconds, that is, to run faster or slower.

$500 bucks... New for me every time... Your name on the warranty card just in case you do need it... I for one have and with someone else name on the card RSC USA may or may not honor the warranty

I'd establish a relationship with an AD and have the best of both worlds.

This is exactly what I did. When I got my SubC recently, the price was actually lower than what most TRF sellers were selling a BNIB for.

Brand new from Rolex AD always.

Never know when a watch may stop or little things (scratches, losing time, movement issues etc)

I want to go to bed at night in peace, and thats worth $500 bucks.

Brand new. The only piece i would not buy brand new is a watch that can not be bought brand new. i.e. vintage. But vintage is for the experts so i stick to brand new.

The price difference between an AD and gray market BNIB is almost $1,500.00. AD's in my area were not willing to do any discounts...

If you really want to go the AD route you gotta expand your search. I read on here that there are ADs within an hour or so from you that gives you the prices you're looking for.

Just wondering...if you made a decision to go BNIB based on 1.5 hrs. of input here, did you already lean that way?
