Though decision! Need Help!
Hello TRF!
I am new to the forum and as I am really indecisive I would be interested in your opinion. It was always a decision between a submariner or an Explorer 2 for me. In the end I purchased an Explorer 2, black dial from 1992 which recently had been serviced as I got quite a good deal on it. I really like the watch and it keeps accurate time etc. but for some reason I still feel drawn to the Sub. So I decided to put the Explorer up for sale and buy a Submariner instead. Now the choice, which is probably down only to preference (is it?) a Submariner 14060 from 1994, recently serviced or a Submariner 16610 ??? I find the date on a watch quite useful, however, which of these two watches do you think will be harder to get your hands on for a good price in the future? I believe Rolex don't produce the Sub without a date anymore, can I conclude therefore that the 14060 will be more sought after in the future? Thank you in advance! Dan |

I would say 16610... You will miss the date feature on the 14060, if you use it... also there are plenty of both model, so no worries on availability in the future, I doubt either will be very hard to get for decades to come...

Rolex announced a non-date Sub in a larger case at Basel last week so there will be plenty of either Sub around for many years to come (date and non-date).
IMHO, pick what suits you today. You can always change again later if you want.

I like the ND Sub but if you think you will use the date feature than get a Sub w/date

I've had both but only kept the 14060. I miss the date but love the 14060. SD will be my next purchase.

No date sub is a no go for me. Gotta have the date and I don't care for the explorer so Sub date is the only choice for me.

I don't think it would be that hard to get either one really. I imagine less 14060s overall were made but still there are plenty out there.
My preference would be the 16610LV however, Maxi dial and ability to use either black or green insert. Personally I have never used my black insert though.

Can't go wrong either way, however IMO, to split hairs :
form over function - 14060 function over form - 16610 |
