5513 help.
Hi Guys,
I'm looking at this 5513 and would like some feedback. It's a great looking watch from the pics and seems to be all original. They tell me it's a 1968, Serial No. 2571***. My question is, should this be a metres first dial or is it correct. Also, does the case seem to be over polished or am I being too anal. I'm going to see it shortly so I would appreciate any honest comments or feed back. Thanks in advance. |

A 1968 Sub should bear a 1,9 M serial number according to the charts I know. So the dial is ok imho.
As to an over polished case, difficult to see with only two pictures, and not any from the sides (to see if lug holes are too closed to the summit of the lugs) but yes, I would say the lugs have been polished more than once and I think the lug at 5 0'clock is a little bit thinner. |

I have an all original 5513 from the beginning of 72 with 258 serial. This one looks identical and very nice, the year though is 71.
Hope this helps. |

The only thing that makes me think twice about this is the dial looks a little too black considering the nice even yellowing on the markers and hands. If it's a matt rather than gloss dial and all original, the face should be the same charcoal grey as the bezel insert.
Something else to check for, the very outer ring with the markers seems to stay black rather than greying with rest of the face on these 5513's. And the ft. first is normal between around 70 - 73. I think the James Bond 5513 from the same period was also ft. first. I'm new to this game though so I'm only going with what I know from my own watch and the bits I've picked up from the more knowledgable members here. Good luck if you decide to go for it. |

I think they are confused with the inside caseback engraving being 68. The case serial number is not 1968 as its more 1970 and the feet first dial is correct for 2.5mil serial. IMO a 1968 serial case would more likely have a meters first dial. I messaged you on WUS about it, it's great to see you here Donald ;)
