Overpriced Vintage 16750 at Ralph Lauren!!!

Walked into the RL boutique on Michigan Ave. here in Chicago and saw a beautiful GMT 16750 for sale. Beautiful patina, original dial
with matching hands, original plexi, bracelet from correct time period with barely any stretch and case was in very good shape not over polished and bezel with a nice fade. The asking price IMHO just ridiculously high at $7500. It was a gorgeous looking watch but come on you can get a 16750 at a fraction of that here in TRF.

Just proof once again that knowledge is $$$. Whom ever buys that has no idea TRF or VRF even exist.

I think they will easily sell it for this price in that store.

It's expensive, but there is something to say about buying a watch that you know exactly what you're getting, and not off the internet. I am sure anyone here would pay more to actually try a watch on before they bought, some more so than others.

Nice looking watch. Like Nick said, i am sure someone will come in and buy it causes it "matches" their outfit.

Over here in the UK London dealer Watch Club has a "gloss" dial 16750 up for £6950 which is over $10,800! It doesn't look like the most amazing example available either although cleaned, serviced and now in showroom display condition.

At least its good to know that these clothing retailers appear to endorse classic a Rolex as the compliment to quality clothing and appearance.

Too pricey for a 16750. What were the other timepieces in the display?

I actually go into that very store just to see what they've brought in lately. I've seen Patek, VC, AP,.... well, their selection has run the gamut of the watch world. It has been a while since I've been there, but most of their vintage offerings, as I recall, were on straps and were smaller than the current rage. And, of course, they are all incredibly overpriced.

Nothing interesting! That was the only vintage Rolex. The rest were just other small manual wind watches for ladies. I didn't even look closely.

It will sell way to many international travelers in a place like that, someone with more money than time or sense will charge it on their black American Express

For what that watch is, and considering the store, I actually don't think it's a crazy price. Too expensive, yes, but not insane. (I bet it comes with a store warranty.) Barneys in New York also has a vintage watch section, and they often have very nice examples. Same thing, though, overpriced for real watch lovers/collectors, but priced to sell to people with money who don't want to do a ton of research and hunting.

Madison Ave RL

The NYC Madison Ave RL Store had several nice vintage Rolex watches three weeks ago. Most were indeed on straps. There were at least three 5513's (two with matt dials, one with gloss, one Bubbleback and an early Datejust. They all looked good but unfortunately (or fortunately) I did not ask about the price. They definitely know where and how to place the watches throughout the store. If you haven't been to this particular store it's worth the trip even if you don't buy anything!
