New to TRF, not so new to Rolex

Hey all,

I am new to the forums, but do know a descent amount about Rolex watches I am no expert, but I know of the basics to look out for. I am looking to purchase a pre-owned 1990 1/2 TT Blue Sub. The jeweler that is selling it says he is a certified Rolex servicer, but not an authorized by Rolex dealer. This seems sketchy. So I am unsure whether or not to purchase this watch. It has no papers, but I have the serial number. If anyone can point me in the right direction for this as to whether or not to pursue this watch I would appreciate it.

I don't find it such a big deal if the watch was serviced buy Rolex. I have my watch guy I don't ever send a watch to Rolex. I would say it depends on price. Here in Florida the used Rolex market is very big. Rolex watches are also very simple to repair and service. I think most of these Jewelry dealers all lie about how the watch maker they use is certified Rolex repair person. At one time Rolex was just another brand trying to make it happen and they did. They became one of the most respected brands, but not the never the ost complicated. I am 33 now and I have been dealing buying and selling as well as collecting Rolex watches since I was 17. Always in Florida. I would have to say 96% of these watch guys are not certified Rolex repair what they is very experienced watch makers that have been repairing these watches for 20 years or more.

I myself am a young guy, 19 April 2. The jeweler has been around for 30 some odd years. So I just want to make sure that I'm getting the real thing is all. If I was getting a fake, I wouldn't spend real money for it, you know? I see you're in Naples, any places over there you would recommend looking at? If I find what I'm looking for and for a good price, I'll take a pretty far drive.

As to the price, the tag says $4,800 but he will sell it to me for $4,500. I also was looking for the Black dial black bezel and he said he would change it out for me no charge.

the black dial is a wrong choice. the blue dial on the tu tone is the one to own. I would buy it at the 4500 with the blue dial much more collectible and valuable with blue.

I have owned just about every model rolex for at least 4 hours so I know what sells fast and what sits little longer. Blue is the sure sale

the reason he will change it no charge is bc he will make more money on the blue dial and end up with another black one free. don't make the black mistake

Does it matter that I plan on keeping the watch and not really getting rid of it unless I purchase another model down the road?

If you plan to keep it I would say find find a tutone Sub with a black dial with box and papers for the same price. I think you can find a complete Sub with black dial for $4500

But if you plan to trade it later keep it Blue bc a Blue sub is better trade material than a black sub.

If you plan to take it to the grave then get the black dial on it

Sounds like a better idea. Ever since I've been looking for this I told myself I wouldn't buy a watch without box/papers. It's always going to be on my wrist so the box isn't the breaker, but its nice to have. As far as papers, I've been told they are only good to the original owner or if the watch is in the warranty period, but it's something I'd like to have for the money I'm going to be spending. Thank you
