if I buy this(pic) K-series Explorer, how can I make sure its not counterfeit?

Hi!

This is my second post here. My first one got deleted, because I was asking how to avoid VAT when sending overseas.

This is super nice forum! I have spend few weeks now studying about different Rolex models and their history, and this forum has been my main source of information.

So, I'm looking to buy my first Rolex, and I was hopeing you guys could help me.

I found this on sale:


if I buy this K-series Explorer, how can I make sure its not counterfeit?

And what papers/tags came with K-series Explorer?

Was there differences (in papers, boxes) if watch was sold in Europe, America or Asia?

All help would be appreciated. Investing thousands of euros to watch is a new thing for me.

It would be super nice, if someone has complete K-series Explorer set, and could take pics and post them here.

All pictures off early 2000's Explorer's with their boxes and papers are highly well come.

My view on this is just stay clear of the second hand market and buy from an AD. Try to get a good discount. By good I mean about 20% off. Don't let anyone tell you discounts do not happen. Here in Canada I got two Rolex watches at 20% off. About trusted sellers. I am sure other will be by shortly to sing the praise of many trusted sellers here on the fourm as well. To each their own. I would just buy from the AD and get a good discount on the watch. Good luck.

Yes, buy the seller, a good tip that make deals really happen, instead question "are you gonna buy it or not".

Unfortunately my financial situation does not allow me to buy new from AD.

All help appreciated, and pics very well come.

Could someone post a pic where it shows how the watch is supposed to look like when it has all its links attached?

When I said "buy the seller" I didn't mean from an AD but rather from a trusted source like our good sellers here on the forum.

Never just rely on anything like a box or the so called papers or hang tags to prove a watch is genuine .As your watch you intend buy is a K serial this means the case was stamped sometime 2001/2 and the so called papers a warranty paper thats now well out of date.And if you buy from a reliable source you should be sure of not getting a counterfeit watch and even a picture of a genuine watch is not always the watch you will receive do your homework on the seller ask plenty of questions about the watch.Even ask if watch could be verified before you buy it, always buy the seller.

The seller is not from Rolxforums, or any other watch-forum.

So, all help according to papers and boxes is appreciated.

Meaby the seller is selling a fake-Rolex and dosnt even know it, who knows?

To make the deal I need to be 100% shure it the real deal, so meaby some of you Rolex-enthusiasts could help me to do the deal?

The only way you can be sure is meet the seller in person at a rolex AD. Pay the watchsmith 30 bux or whatever for an authentication.

Otherwise it's just a crap shoot what you will get if you buy over internet. If you go the internet route, get it from one of the trusted seller here. If you are patience and can wait, eventually one will pop up for sale here.

The help is: buy from only an authorized Rolex dealer or someone well known as a reputable seller. Anything other than that, forget it. Seriously.

Oh, and you can buy from an AD if you save enough money. That's all it takes.

I'm another voice for buying the seller. Afterall, seeing the greatest looking watch in the world is meaningless if you have a different watch sent to you.

If you don't trust the seller, there really isn't a foolproof system for protecting yourself. However, almost any watch repair person can authenticate a Rolex in about 2 seconds. Authenticating that every part is standard Rolex or that the bracelet matches the age of the watch, etc. takes a bit more skill.

This forum is really best for helping you learn about the different models and to show you what features are available and when they came out.

second: go to AD and open your rolex, this is the best way to say is your rolex is autentic or no.

Well I think we have beaten the dead horse to death here but it is 100% the buying of the seller IMHO. I will ONLY deal with Trusted Sellers right here on TRF or my AD's. Thats it period. There is too much junk out there and I would not be willing to take any chances

I'll try to organise meeting with watchsmith before the deal. Thats the only way to be sure. Just, that there is no AD (and possibly no watchsmit) in the city where the seller lives.

But, how about the PICTURES of papers, tags and boxes?
I'd still be interested about those, so feel free to post if you wanna help.

If I do this particular deal, at least I would be interested if I got everything that came when it was bought the first time.

So, pictures of "complete K-series Explorer set's" are highly appreciated.
