Watch the Throne! 72-10: 6 Rings - Incoming Prelude!

This will be my story that will end in the vintage section... As some of you are aware, I have always been into unpopular Rolex references and to me the 1655 is the greatest Rolex reference ever produced. This is the only piece of horology that I can honestly say will be my end all be all... The one's that have come before (Movado, Rolex, Patek, Audemars) were just placeholders until I got proper advice from folks here who will be named when I unveil and the call from the vintage gurus to help bring the crown home for me. This story will chronicle the career of Michael Jordan who was drafted #3 in 1984 who in turn turned out to be the greatest NBA player to ever grace our generation. Fast forward to the present until the big day... Hope you all enjoy the ride!

Oh, boy

You would think that Bill Russell's 11 rings in 13 years would get the guy some respect

Ahhh yes John! The great Bill Russell, unfortunately I am not old enough to have witnessed him play on the other hand Jordan has tormented my beloved Knicks for years and sometimes you have to just agree that a guy is GREAT at his sport and in this case me making a parallel reference to Jordan and the iconic 1655! I will be adding onto the journey a little later and there will be some Celtics material for you in this thread to enjoy ;-)

Sam, I love this thread. I was in high school in Chicago during the dynasty, it was incredible. In fact, I quit paying attention to the nba shorty after that. However, now that I'm down here, I'm getting into hoops again.

I may wait for years, but I am looking forward to seeing your 1655.

The Countdown Begins - 6

Jordan's sixth championship was considered to be the greatest finish to win a major sports title in any sports category! Many sports critics claim this ending capped one of the greatest stories for any professional sports player who was considered unpopular when entering a professional sport... The 216570 is no different in this regard... Initial hate turned into Love!

Oh, I don't know Sam....I don't think there was "hate" for the 216570....now, if the Sky-Dweller comes out on top, now that'll be a story!

really, an un-called, offense foul is the greatest finish in all of championship sports......

I'd put Bobby Orr's goal in the 1970 Stanley Cup final, Bill Mazeroski's 1960 bottom of the 9th walk off home run in the World Series, John Havlicek steeling the ball in 1965 and Big Ben Roethlisberger's last second throw against the Az Cardinals' all way more exciting, impressive and relivent than Jordan givin one more bit of special treatment from the guys in striped shirts....

John, since I am an 80's baby I have only heard of Bobby Orr's goal, Mazeroski's HR, and Havlicek's steal (what a steal btw)! Funny that you would think Big Ben's throw was more exciting than Manning's 4 quarter heroics in his first Super Bowl win against the undefeated Patriots! Anyway here is what I vividly remember...

80's baby ? Wow that makes you around 30 ? Congratulations on your collection man. It really is something to have all that at your age.

I love these story threads of yours. Can't wait to see the watch itself.

Haha! Ok Cru, maybe not hate, however, there are plenty of folks out there who strongly dislike the aesthetics of the 216570 and with the 1655 forget about it either way your post (https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=207226) on the evolution of an understatement helped put my current decision into perspective for me!

Not even sure what half this thread is about, but I'm still excited anyway.

Who's this Michael Jordon guy anyway? Looks like he plays netball.

Hey Wes, quick summary of what my thread is about... I typically like to name my timepieces after iconic folks who struggled while growing up and eventually made it big in their chosen profession... In this case I am naming my incoming 1655 after the retired NBA legend Michael Jordan... You can read more about him here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Jordan)... This thread will end in a few days in grand fashion in the vintage section where I meet with one of the respected vintage collectors in the Americas to finally acquire the 1655 I have been coveting for so long... To be continued...

I didn't know you named them. Cool

Of course I've heard of Jordon, just messing. Looking forward to the unveiling.

Can you at the very least tell us if you found a complete set or if you are just getting the watch? I know this was your dilemma earlier on in this post. Can't wait to see it!
