My grandfather left this to me and I have had it in a drawer for several years. It is all original short of the bracelet, which is a Speidel. The crown is original and has a plus under the crown. The crystal has slight scratches and has a crack at the top of the dial, but has character. I'm probably going to replace the crystal and find a period correct Rolex bracelet; I'm guessing maybe a jubilee? I don't know if it would be a faux-pax, but I wonder if Rolex made a canvas type band that would be fitting for a more casual look?

It is only worn on special occasions. It runs great and keeps time for the period of time that I wear it. I wear it with pride for what it is and who owned it.

The best I can tell is that it is a 6084 with white waffle dial. Probably purchased in the early 50's. I will get the serial number when I take it to a certified Rolex mechanic for service and crystal. I have not and will not open the case on my own.

Actually you only need to remove the strap and see if you can make out the numbers between the lugs... model number at one end and serial at the other!

Roger, thanks for the education. Just took off the band. Model 6284 is easy enough to see. The serial number is a bit more difficult. With light and magnifying glass the best I can make out is: 77727. I think I may be missing a number??? Any thoughts? Is it always this difficult to see the s/n? I hate asking, but any chance it is a fake?

Nice piece! Love the simplicity of the bezel and dial. I have an old non-date oyster perpetual 1002. The dial is great on yours!!

I have 7205 stainless riveted bracelet on mine, the one with the folded stainless links (not solid) The clasp has some wear and doesn't stay snapped as well as it should. I'm not sure if that can be repaired or not so I basically removed it and keep in in my desk drawer. bought one of the solid linked replica rivet bracelets off of ebay recently, have yet to receive it, must be on a slow boat from china.

but FWIW I think leather bands look great with the oyster case, and i bet a canvas one would look great too. You could also find a rolex buckle for it- if you decide to go that route.
