Thinking of buying a 1680

Been looking at Vintage Subs, actually a 16800, and the more I look the more I think "just buy a red 1680" and get it over with......

Jacek has one I've been ......

Please talk me out of it...

Dude, I can't talk you out of it. Before I became an active member on this forum, I liked 1680 Reds but never wanted one. Now, I need one. I had a 1680, but knew I would never get around to buying a dial and now... I'm just waiting for a 1680 red to come along for a deal.

I would suggest just holding out and keeping your eyes peeled.

John, you better act fast my Phx Friend. I know which one you're eyeing and I have a 16760 no date that I've almost talked myself in for trading for that 1680. The only thing stopping me is I am trying to shore up a few more items to come up with the rest of the cash.

As for advice, I'll give you the same advice everyone gave me when I asked them to talk me out of my 1675.............Just buy it. You don't need anyone to talk you out of something you already have your heart set on. You only need to consider if the one you are looking at is the one you are ready to settle for. I waited a year for my 1675, but it was precisely what I wanted.

Last thing, if you get it shoot me a PM, we'll get together for a drink.

Pete

Can't go wrong with either the 16800 or the 1680! Both are gorgeous watches!

AZ, you have been around enough to know that you buying at 16800 will not satisfy the desire for a Red 1680. Put your search and funds toward it!

Love 1680's!! Has so much more character with the top hat plexi, than an old boring 16800. The 1680 red is one of THE BEST vintage rolex watches you can buy today for under $10,000 IMO

boring..

Hey Michael, I see why some say the 16800 is a boring/transitional model, but here is the flipside to that:

-my 16800 has the later white gold marker around the dots
-the clear glass is modern, looks nice
-the like the movement on this watch, mine is < 1 second accurate
-it looks the same as a 16610
-older style date wheel numbers, open 6's, etc...
-it's got a pearl dot with 80's patina

But yes, this is the same one I wanted to trade you for your 5513...So I am clearly leaning towards vintage these days... By the way, your 5513 is awesome...!!!!

I like the 1680 over the 16800.You can get 18k red or white. For me the sapphire version doesn't do it. I rather buy an LV submariner.

I have a white 1680 and a 16800. I'm with you. I love my 16800 but the 1680 is so damn cool. So I put an LV insert on my 16800. Now that looks cool. Maxi Matte dial and the LV insert? oh yeah.
