Icon5 Do I trade all for 1?

Had something on my mind the last few days...Keep coming back to a WG DDII with the Blue wave Dial that I saw and am considering whether it is worth moving current collection (various Rolex/Omega) to have only one watch...

Wonder about the WG durability, etc...but I wear a Casio to work and only wear my other watches in the evenings/weekends (casual) or when I'm suited up (3 times a year or so).

Any thoughts? Anybody moved to only 1 watch and been happy? Or does the bug or lack of variety eat at you?

Sometimes, depending on your lifestyle or needs, just 1 can make ya HAPPIER. Inveterate collectors/rotators would probably disagree...but when one watch is all you have, you tend to really bond with it. After a period of years that watch will really have stories to tell and that can mean a lot more than a rotation of pieces all twirling away on winders or burl wood boxes in a safe.

Rolex models naturally are great candidates for the 1-watch guy or gal--as they are classic in design, engineered for durability, and able to cope with water and shock better than most mechanicals.

Question is, how much do you REALLY love that wave DDII? If you have a soft spot for some of your other pieces, be sure you'll be happy turning 'em loose....otherwise sellers remorse can be a real bitch.

Some people can do it and some cannot. I cannot, I like wearing a different one on a daily basis. Your wearing a Casio during the day and only wearing a luxury watch in the evening and weekends.

You might just be able to do it.

Take sometime and breath before you jump.

Good luck with your decision.

I think it's a worthwhile move. The seed has been planted and you won't truly be happy until you have the DDII. It will give you what you want, make a fantastic heirloom, and will allow you to reevaluate what you sold off in your prior collection so that you can make future well thought-out sports purchases based on your "palate" change. It will be a fun journey!

I've heard of many trading their collection for one and then missing the ability to switch it up.

I think it would help to understand what your current collection consists of. If it's diverse enough maybe you could keep one sports watch?

Thanks for the replies.
Now I do share a watch w/ my Pops but he's on board with whatever gets done. Currently
DSSD; PAM and DJII; Speedy Pro
But don't wear that often (not to work)...Really like the idea of a minimal collection (maybe keep the speedy) but all others would have to go and I'd wear the S**t out of the DDII.

Sierra11b - like the thought of an heirloom watch.

Which does your Dad wear?

If you could manage to keep the Speedy I would because it's an icon and you won't really get enough out of it to put a significant dent in the DDII purchase vs the $$$$ in selling the rest. Plus it covers the versatile sports watch criterion for the time being.

He has the DSSD but never wears and really isn't interested in watches that much.

And I'd keep the Speedy out of any of them.

Spot on! In response to how durable the gold would be, just look at some of the vintage gold Rolexes and that should answer your question.

I would/will do it. Especially a day date II which I find is an awesome watch. And if it does not work out you can always sell it and buy 2 or 3 other watches. That's one of the reasons I love Rolex is that they are easy to sell, like commodities and there is a ready market for them used.

I'm confused... Is the DSSD yours and he just borrows the watch?

Basically a 50/50 split as we went in together..but it's "his". He's much more into vehicles while I caught the watch bug.

If you really only wear your watches off hours, I would really consider it, especially if you keep the Speedmaster

Adam K. nailed it! Although it may be difficult for collectors to get used to one watch, it's not impossible. After all, we all start with one. I wear my TOG 24/7 but slip on my Hamiton Ventura once in a while-which also makes me appreciate it even more. I've never felt the need or had the desire to add any more since they probably see little action. Oh yeah, just for the record I've been wearing Rolex for 20+ years. In the 3 years I've been reading TRF and has not influenced me to buy more Rolexes. (Well...maybe a little!) Good luck whichever way you go.

and rebuild your collection while always having a beautiful GRAIL piece!!!

I'm a 1 watch Rolex wearer (DJII). I love wearing the same watch everyday. I say once you find your favorite watch, why put on anything else? The DDII looks great dressed up and down. Go for it!!!

Been moving to the 1 watch Idea; Just love the dial and numbers on the DDII and of course the president. I'm not a diver/mountain climber etc. When I wear the watches it's for casual/dress occasions and my Casio Pathfinder for all other activities where I can beat it to death.

I couldn't. I can go from rock climbing to family barbecues to work to black tie events in the place of two days. There is no one watch that satisfies those parameters. It depends on your lifestyle though, I think you could. I mean if you only suit up a few times a year ? Maybe.

I want a Sub, a Nautilus and then keep my JLC reverso. Thats my minimum.

I like having choices, but certain watches in my collection hold deep significance to me, other pieces I purchased because I just liked the way the watch looked or maybe served a functioned etc. It sounds like, for you, the DD II is the former: a "deep significance" watch. I don't know you (obviously), but the fact that you've posted this is telling. I say go for it.

good luck either way and post pics when/if you take delivery!

Tough choice. If you think you can live with 1...... I wouldn't be able to do it. I prefer to wear my watches in rotation.

Good luck!

it all depends on what kind of value you place on the other pieces. do they represnt a time and meaning individually or are they just pieces that you have around? personally i see nothing wrong with moving all of them to acquire something that you love as long as there is no sentimental value.

For me I wouldn't but for you I say keep the speedy and get the WG DD you want. Seems like you really want it and would suit you.

I see. I did the same thing with the wifey on one of our DJs but she wears it 100% of the time. I think I've been had. Considering Dad's a car guy maybe he can sign off on 50/50 Daytona split?

Dad signed off on the deal then I say it's a go! Keep that Speedy, though... Dad can still wear that, too.

Good luck and post pictures if you do!

Yes do it now. You can only wear one watch anyway so it might as well be the best one on the plant. Just ask fellow trf member justabreathaway how he feels about his DDII.
