Hologram Stickers

When did Rolex start using the Hologram sticker on the case back? Was there always any kind of sticker on the back? Thanks

I can tell you when they stopped using these in reality useless bits of sticky back plastic. And yes the plain green stickers with the ref number, and after those the hologram type have been used by Rolex for many decades.Rolex got rid of the green stickers and hologram stickers with a special request from myself,as on many forums including TRF. We had more daily questions about the stickers holograms sticky back plastic etc, than the more important bits like Rolex history, the actual watches and movements etc.If I remember the holograms started to disappear in around 2007,and last appearing on Z serials now just a clear bit of plastic that's easily removed.

Peter
Is there a " best practice" in removing either type of green case back sticker?
For example heated air, chemical agent, etc?

Yes, there is always a sticker on the back when the watch is first made.. and it has gone through many iterations. The sticker keeps the clasp from scratching the caseback until after the first purchaser takes it off, just like all the other stickers all over it's surface.

Now days the sticker is just clear to stop the many fake makers trying to demonstrate that a Rolex is "real" because it has the "proper" sticker, which is just plain silly when you think of how easy it is to counterfeit such stickers..
