Wear the Rolex. He simply might not be into watches or have 10 at home.

Myself have no interest whatsoever in whatever watch my boss used to wear when I was working. And its only a WIS type person would even look or even care, on the type of watch anyone was wearing, no matter the brand or price.

Well my boss wears a platinum daydate so he definitely has a nicer watch than me but even if he wore a Casio I would still wear my Rolex.

I think I wear nicer watches than my whole management chain. They make millions, and I don't, therefore I believe they don't care.

I would only notice because I really like Rolex and other fine watches .. But if my boss wore a cheaper watch that would be fine because he is wearing what he wants to wear .. I would continue to wear my Rolex because that is what I want to wear

You would be surprised, but most people will never notice what watch you happen to be wearing.

People usually dont notice unless they know the brand .. I can only count a few times when someone noticed my watch and gave me a compliment

My boss wears a Tag and he makes at least 2-3 times as much as I do. He once commented on the watch I was wearing (AP Rubberclad), but I did not go into details of my watch. He was under the impression that his watch was "very fancy and nice" (all stainless with blue dial, no complication). The only other person who noticed my watch (a two tone Sub at the time) was our European director who himself wears a SS Sub. 99% of the population does not know/care and only WIS really pay attention to what others wear.
That said, when I go to buy anything that I am trying to get a discount on, then I put on my Seiko Monster (who just happens to get more compliments than any other watch I have owned, go figure!). |

My boss is actually a member here and is probably going to read this... The beauty about my situation is that he is a WIS himself and we often discuss horology vintage and modern across all watch houses ;-) Time to get back to work gentlemen!

Your boss doesn't care, he's not insecure about his choice of timepiece and asking people on the internet if he should buy a better watch to put his employee in his place.

If watches were a high enough priority to your boss he would have a Rolex. Since he doesn't, my guess is watches aren't important to him. If that's the case I say wear it.

I must admit, I used to find it strange that many successful individuals don't care about watches. However, I have come to find most have other vices such as Cars,Houses,Woman, Boats or just ugly custom made suits.
In short, they spend their money elsewhere.

I'm the boss too. If one of my employees walked in with a Patek I would have to do a double check through our accounts. That's a pretty high hurdle. Assuming that's all good I would then go drool all over it.

My last boss was a serious WIS. He had a collection worth £200k with Rolex, JLC, Patek and audemars in there. As of a few weeks ago he now has one more watch (bringing his total to 9). He bought a £50k Richard Mille making his collection worth £250k. So there's nothing I can wear to make that guy feel challenged.
If your boss doesn't own a nice watch chances are he is not a WIS. You could probably wear an £100k platinum Patek and wave it under his nose and he would have no clue what it was. Most non WIS people have never even heard about Patek. I was casually chatting with this guy in a lecture the other day and mentioned that one of my goals in life was to own a Patek. He just said "What's a Patek ?" |
