Two Tone Disaster
Hey Guys-
You won't believe what happened to me Thursday night. I am out of town for a convention. Enjoying the city of Nashville for the next few days. My wife wanted me to get her a not so bling Omega watch to wear at work so it don't get scratched up. She likes these and has a bling master she wears everyday. Anyway I stopped at high end jewerly store in Nashville to get her one. While looking at them a nice salesman asked if they could clean my TT GMT for me and yes they are AD of Rolex too. So I said ok and he brought it back looking real good.....I thought. Later after retuning from buying the new Omega I cleaned off the Rolex to remove residue from cleaning. To my shock they buffed it where the brush was almost polished and the gold looked like someone had used steelwool on it. It all came about them cleaning it and running it on a polish wheel too hard Anyway, I went back and showed them on Friday morning. It is now off to the Rolex service center to be refinished and polished to bring it back to its original condition. It will be back in 3-4 weeks I hope. Such a small gesture gone bad on their part. Whats the chance of that happening to someone? I am sure they won't let that fellow clean a watch for a client again! Will be glad when it gets back. Until then I am wearing my SS GMT. So beware guys on your Rolex rep no matter who they are to let them clean your watch. It could happen to you |

Sorry to hear what happened, Randy.
Just goes to show what disasters could await us when our watches fall into the wrong hands. JJ

I thought those things only happened to me.
Recently, I popped the bezel off my blue sub on a partially rolled-up car window. Freaky things do happen sometimes!

Horror history, only able to be viewed in the TV. In my opinion/you should ask/they should give you whithout cost a new watch, or atleast a new bracelet-watch case because they:
Have damaged your watch. Have removed steel and gold from your watch with the polising and re-polising. Report them to an officla RSC due what they did. Is there anything that can be done? Antonio |

Update on my TT GMT. It is now at the Rolex service center in NYC. They are going to polish/refinish the watch to restore it. I told the jewerly store it might be just as easy to replace the watch band. They want to do this first to see how it comes out. It sounds like they can restore it to its glory. Will wait and see what happens. It is the pits not having my TT watch to wear. Until then I'm wearing my other SS Rolex.

Randy, can you PM me the location so I can avoid it? Also, are they going to eat the cost of the repair? I know this is common sense but sometimes businesses don't exihibit this. (look at the bracelet after all).

Hey Guys-
The wait is over. Rolex has sent my watch back to the jewelry store and they will send it back to me. I hope to have it still this week. They polished the case and band. Everything came right out. They said it was superficial, no harm done and the watch value was not affected at all. They did replace the clasp for good measure. I'm told it looks like it just came in from the factory. So good news indeed. The moral is don't let a salesman clean your watch while you shop not matter what! A kind deed on his part went real bad. It ended up being a costly matter for them and lots of waiting for me. |

I'm happy to report my guys are a bit smarter than those morons. All I ever do is get the crud steamed off the bracelet & clasp... Glad to hear everything worked out, otherwise I'd have to go with Bo's solution! If the genuis had a TT Blue, you could always melt it for him

I wouldn't be to happy even if they refurnished it to look like new. As Vanessa posted in another thread, a Rolex OEM spec maximum polish 7 times in its lifetime. I won't even let the girl behind the pawnshop counter to hold on my Rollie for too long.

I have gone into an AD to check out the New Yactmaster and Green LV and someone asked if I wanted my Rolex cleaned and polished and I said "No Thank You but Thanks anyway."

Boy my TT GMT is faboulous! Very happy to get it back again and one happy watch. Since it was gone I got the itch for a new Yatch Master. I would have to sell this one first though....anyone interested. Am I nuts or what!
